I have always had a soft spot for MX-5's, and for my birthday my NEW Hubby (sorry, Tak, couldn't help myself ) bought me, as a HUGE surprise, a Mark 1 MX-5, 1.6, non import.

Doing that girly thing, I have named her and she is called Sapphie (did it before Hamster called his car Oliver :P), because she is blue .. well, actually BLUE !!!!

She is 14 years old, has 140k on the clock, but only 2 owners from new.

She's recently just got back from the "doctors" as she had an acne problem (otherwise known as rust), and they did a rather good job. We were a bit worried about the paint being matched as I have only seen one other MX-5 with the same colour and that was an import, but it is matched perfect.

She has a slight incontinence problem and has to wear a nappy just in case, but we think it may just be due to blocked pipes (us females go through crap you know :p) but we are not sure. We have found somewhere, where we can get a new roof, if necessary, for a pretty reasonable price.

She may only have an ickle engine, but she is SO much fun to drive. Reasonable mileage (150 miles to 20 litres). Looking forward to next year so I can drive with the top down a lot and have very tangled hair (yes Sam, growing it again LOL).

Here is a piccy.

Aren't I a lucky girl :D

I do want to put in a decent stereo but having seen a picture from the Mazda Owner's club of this poor guy who had his roof ripped open for the stereo, and when they couldn't get it out, they set fire to the inside of the car .. poor b******d, so I have a cheap stereo and break the law and listen to my MP3 player with headphones ;D

Might be worth getting one of those fm transmitter things so your player goes through the radio? :)

i recommend treating yourself to a hat before the summer 'top down' season begins
two summers in a row my hair has been ruined by the delightful mx-5 :p

today we bought back a potted christmas tree from b&q, with the roof down, top of the tree flapping around in the breeze - so the soft top can come in quite handy!

enjoy it - they're lovely little cars, oh and mk1, definitely the cutest model :)

(his, shiny and clean, when it still had the hard top)

I think about investing in a hard top but then it is where the heck to store it issue. And the weather isn't "that" bad these days.

And yes, the Mk1 is definitely cute .. my Hubby won't let me put eyelashes on the pop up bit of the lights - don't know why ;D

The Hubbsta has stuck new spark plugs and some injection fuel stuff into Sapphie, but haven't had chance to have a go yet but apparently, according to him, it does better now :D Cool :D

The truth comes out.. see he says he bought it for you but it was really a good excuse so he could get his hands on one without feeling guilty about having bought a hair dryer.

Do any of the other Mazda Mk1 Owners know whether we can have the stick on registration number plate rather than the hard one on the front of the car?

It will look so MUCH better :)

I ended up removing my front numberplate altogether for about a year - never had any problems. Stick ons aren't legal but you can get away with it.
