Just thought I'd let you know that for the next week, whilst you're all shivering in good old blighty, I shall be sunning myself in the Canary Islands - I'm off to Lanzarote for a week :cool:

Not the most glamorous of destinations I know but my folks and big bro are out there on holiday just now and it's actually cheaper for me to get to Lanzarote than it is to get to Shetland to see them - bit of a no brainer really. I got return flights direct from Newcastle to Lanzarote for a measly £160 with Jet2.com.
My parents are staying in their timeshare and I will be staying with big bro in the flat he has rented a couple of hundred yards away, the deal being, I buy the beer and whisky for the week I'm there - result.

It is on roughly the same latitude as Alexandria so about the same temperature as when I'm at work but I'll be able to enjoy it rather than curse having to work in it.
