I finally registered last night and so far I'm loving it for the fact that I can search for almost anything I want and download it in a couple of clicks, without having to click update, wait for it to update then having to click Alt+F to look for something in a specialised area :D

NZB's are the greatest things to ever happen to Newsgroups :D

i have a slight problem, I downloaded some anime last night, but went I tried to play it this evening it gets to about 1 minute in then stops. All the files end in .mkv.001 .mkv.002 etc. Why won't they play? I should add there are about files for 1 episode all ending like that.

Get hjsplit (free) and select join and then aim it at the first file. You'll end up with just one mkv file :)

Have finally sorted it, just used quickpar and it sorted it ll out :D

It's not free to download stuff from newzbin malc, you have to buy "credit" for however many weeks you want it. It works out to be about £1 a month. You also need a program like grabit, you download the .nzb from newzbin, then use grabit to download all the files you need. Someone will be along in a mo to make more sense than me :D

malc look into Newsgroup subscriptions (its not free but worth it: ie; easynews, giganews, newshosting, etc...), and newsreaders (newsleecher & altbinz being the best), and then news index sites (Newzbin being the best :p)

Do some research on those and you'll be pleasantly surprised!

Just a quick heads up....Newzbin are doing half price subscriptions for a couple of weeks. It's already been running for a bit so get in quick if you want it :)

If I ever figure out a good reason why, then maybe. Haven't yet though.

Erm if you ever need apps, movies, tv series, music, and generally anything that can be stored in an electronic medium indexed and can be sent down at the max rate of your connection not enough? :p

Probably, but last time I downloaded movies/tv series I ended up deleting them without watching. Still haven't watched any of the DVDs I got from Dym either. :/

Ok I'm probably being thick here but is newzbin simply a search for newsgroup or does it actually give you access?

hmm seems I can't sign up now :(

Desmo

Just a search mate, you need newsgroup access separately.

I had an account for a while but gave it up as I found I could find everything I wanted using the search function in Newsrover (which came free with my subscription to Newsdemon) - it's pretty basic but, so far, I've managed to find everything I've looked for using it.

Ok another daft question, now I have a newzbin account do I need an account with someone like easynews?

Desmo
20-12-2007, 14:07
Yep. There are plenty of other providers about as well.

leowyatt
20-12-2007, 14:46
so once I have that account I need a program to download the files or use the provider to access the newsgroup?

I strongly recomend Newshosting

If you want "normal" newsgroup access go with newshosting theyre pretty decent. if you want something about and beyond normal usuage and the call of duty. Easynews offer some excellent extras such are par viewer, rar extracter, zipping service, a global usenet search (as opposed to newzbins pretty limited). Whatever floats your boat but i coudnt do without easynews now days.

Same here, always had excellent speeds from them and never had a trouble getting anything, even stuff 80 days old.

ok so I have my newzbin account, giganews account, have downloaded Alt.Binz but can't really workout where to go from here. Have put my server details into the settings for alt but not quite sure what to do next.

Can someone help the dunce please :D

LeperousDust

Download nzb of whatever you want, put it in alt.binz, and it will download the correct parts from giganews servers, when theyre done you need to check them( quickpar) and rar them back together (winrar), or set up alt.binz properly with their options and it even oes that for you!

ok cool, finally found the search functionality and have been downloading stuff ;D

Just trying to get it to stick the stuff back together. Seem to be missing part 1 of Golden Compass :(

There are loads of step by step things everywhere, and we've written it out here a good few times (at least twice myself). Check back over threads, and you can't go wrong....

Have you got quickpar Matt?

leowyatt

quickpar, nope ;D

Robert

Download it and run the .par files in the film's directory :)

leowyatt
27-12-2007, 20:55
ok, it's checking files now.

EDIT: it's verified stuff but I don't quite see what to do next.

Zirax
27-12-2007, 21:36
When you have loaded up the par files and its verifying.... click the box "automatically repair" and in the future if something needs work, it does it. Alternatively once the files have been verified, click repair.

LeperousDust
27-12-2007, 21:48
If he has Alt.Binz, its just an option there to autocheck and auto repair files without the need for a separate application....

leowyatt
28-12-2007, 19:55
well I have downloaded a DVD and checked the files and they are all fine, don't need repairing but winrar is saying the files are failing crc checks and it won't extract it :(

EDIT: have redownloaded the offending files but still won't bloody work :(
