View Full Version : Dead Ipod 3rd gen.
Well my 4 year old Ipod died today. I haven't used it much in the past few months - but I charged it over night and now it won't work without mains power. It costs £40 for the new batt (quick check), so I may just save for a new one.
You've done well. Lucky if you get two years out of a lot of li-ion batteries of that type. I've got a dead Archos and my X5 isn't doing so good thanks to li-ion decay. :/
My nearly five year old batteries in the laptop still hold a charge for 30-60 minutes but they're somewhat bigger than your typical iPod. :)

£40 is a fair amount cheaper than a new ipod if youre only really after a working ipod. the 5/5.5g second iPods go for decent prices now days too. Only thing you miss out on is coverflow (and search if you get a 5g) both which aren't particulary needed. Storage space is slightly different too i guess.
Shouldn't cost anywhere near that much for a new battery. Maplin sell a 3g battery for £17.99 so you should easily be able to get on online for less.
