Which would you guys recommend? I think I am currently on 128k as I was told this was the 'average users' optimum size, but I am not so sure. I mainly use this machine for gaming, movies, music and the like, and I was told lower stripe sizes would make the system more responsive.

Was told however that putting it right down to something like 4k would be ridiculous. What do you guys use, or if you don't have RAID, what size would you use if you had?

64k I think, whatever the default the controller gave me was. Doesn't really matter much with a pair of sata disks on cheap/soft controllers - just go with whatever it wants.

Even with the bigger arrays I've worked with I only really look at stripe sizes on RAID-5's or really high performance LUNs.

As Daz said really. I've used both 32k and 64k. I think using 128k is fine for high end servers but pointless on desktop/media machines.

No idea, whatever the default is.

/edit - If it's "block size" then it's set to 128, I just checked.

64k or 128k, I used 128k when I first installed a Raid0 array as I didn't know the difference (~7-8 years ago now) and it was fine, I think I tried 64k on the next one and didn't notice any real difference that wouldn't have been explained by the fact hard drive technology had moved on. If it bothers you then I'd go with 64k since it gives you a good mix of speed and fairly minimal loss of space but the difference is probably negligible with such large hard drives. :)
