View Full Version : Streaming a .ts file via my 360?
Simple question(s).
Anyone done it? Can I do it? How?

This (http://www.avforums.com/forums/showpost.php?p=4033620&postcount=8) any good?
From what I understand of the format the 360 should play it natively, so it should just be a case of adding it to your media player library.
.ts is an MPEG2 variant, but there are two formats and one of them doesn't work so well with a lot of codecs (causes sound and picture break-up). YMMV.
Hokay, will give it a try direct and if not then look at the method suggested. Ta

Any luck Feek? We have 1 ep of a TV series which is only available in ts and I trying to work out if I need to convert it first.
I should have an answer tonight. I was 98.4% of the way towards testing it this morning.

ok cool, if you can let me know that'll be awesome. I don't have a machine fast enough to transcode the file so when I've had mkv files before I've had to convert them to wmvs which the 360 plays happily.
Hmm, it plays in WMP but is very stuttery and slow, I added it to the library (or at least did a rescan of my library) but it doesn't appear to have picked up so the 360 doesn't even see it.
Not looking good.

I ended up converting it to a DVD then I'll play it through the iBook on the TV.
You'll probably have to shove it through VideoReDo or somesuch. There are enough differences in the data structures between .ts and DVD format to confuse players. In any event, VLC would of course play it - doesn't help with the Xbox360 but might with the Mac. :)
I expected VLC to play it but it fares worse than WMP - Grey box with no picture or sound and the bar at the bottom shows 00:00 all the time.
Yup - VLC can't play my recorded .ts files either. Surprised at that. Fortunately as I can record them I have a player that'll play them back too.
Rename it to avi Feek, the 360 should see it then. How big is the file?
Huge. 4Gb, something like that. I'll try the rename trick tonight, but as the file format is somewhat different I'm not sure it'll work.
Leo's link in post 2 didn't help, sadly.
Nope, renaming it doesn't work - The Xbox now knows it there but won't play it due to a format error.

Can you get a PC attached to your TV? Play it that way? I've given up with ts files to be honest and just convert them to different formats and watch them that way.
