Ok, This game requires a hotfix KB940105 (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=18499035-F799-4F93-BB3C-DB70E22E1C1E&displaylang=en).
The windows update centre requires Genuine Microsoft windows.

Guess what ;)

Any thoughts?

thanks for the reply.

Install the installer package that DRZ suggested or the Genuine Microsoft utility thingy?

Is the MSU the same as the Autopatcher that was released a while back?

I'd just install the Genuine Microsoft doofer. But that's me being a smug git because Vista is the first MS OS I've ever officially owned.

I did wonder if you had :)

Trouble is if I do, it's going to keep reminding me.. I might buy it anyway. Is there anyway of buying it without have to reinstall the damn thing :)

I just found out the in August 2007. Microsoft put a stop on Autopatcher :(

However, I found this..

Seems pretty upto date.. I'll install this on my test PC first, see how it goes.

DRZ, does that .msu file contain the hotfix?

That's a shame about AP, but as a lot of those updates were behind WGA I can't say I'm surprised. I still have up to the July update I think - I'd best keep that safe.

July update does contain the update I need.

I have downloaded a file that contain a zip file of updates which includes 940105.

There are 7 files:

update.mum ???
_manifest_cix.xml
update.cat
and four files numbered 2 to 5

any ideas how this installed?

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/934307

To install an .msu update package, run Wusa.exe together with the full path of the file. For example, if the Windows6.0-KB934307-x86.msu file is in the D:\934307 folder, type the following command at a command prompt to install the update package:
wusa.exe d:\934307\Windows6.0-KB934307-x86.msu

:)

.. and that's it, does it not do a WGA check?

Thanks Daz, I'll give that a whirl later :)

No idea. Shouldn't though I guess, if it was checking at the point of download. But hey, it's software, they could make your system do a dance in a tutu on bootup if they really wanted.

Suck it and see. :)

I'm surprised there's no file association for .msu (there is for .msi and .msp).

Huddy, that is indeed the update you are after - I got past WGA for you here (on 32bit OEM) and downloaded it.
