So i had my Sausages on & thought I'd sling a few Potatoes in the Microwave & have them with beans. I set the timer for around 30 mins & came back to browse. After around 25 minutes i heard a bang but i just thought it was the normal kind of microwave popping & banging you get, It wasn't. I went out in the kitchen & the place was full of acrid smoke, I looked into the Microwave & one of the Tattys was on fire, My Microwave looked like one of those gas fires :p All the roof of the Microwave has melted & dripped down, You can see it in this pic

On the right there is the towel i used to put the fire out.

You've Brainiac'd it!

That's quite impressive Malc, 30 minutes seems a bit long for tatties so I guess they just got somewhat warm and ignited.

At least you, Frank and the house are OK.

Were the spuds edible, btw? ;)

Nah, Brainiac would have blown the bloody door off. :)

As you and Feek have both said - at least you and Frank are fine. Shame about supper though.

Yeah 30 mins is enough to kill anything in a microwave... As you've found out.

I tried this one myself tonight. No tatties involved but the instructions said 2 mins 40 seconds so I dialed in 2 mins 45. Didn't even get to 35 seconds before the smell and rising smoke told me it was all about to go Pete Tong, so I mashed on the stop button.

Nowt to see now, food just about rescued. I did say nearly rather than actually doing it. Like Malc I'd usually set the microwave and walk away though. For some reason I didn't tonight (didn't really get time to I suppose). Just as well.

so it was only the food burning, not the microwave burning?

Yup. I don't think I'd be in the house now if it was the latter. Had enough close calls with fire already thanks. I recall once spending several minutes in a shower without knowing there was an electrical fire two rooms away, though I admit my memory is a little hazy on that one now.

I'm back on old school cooking with the Oven, It's a bit crap to be honest as Munchys has turned into a big ritual again with warming the oven, prep & all the gubbings taking far to long. I have got my 2nd hand New oven back home though that i dealt up in my Jeep deal. It's about 8 months old an Indesit & Stainless steel. It should be more efficient with the Leccy when it's installed. I also fitted the whole house out with 11w energy saver bulbs i got from that newspaper deal. I got 8 bulbs for under 4 quid
Every little helps :p

I did 4 rather large tatties in the microwave last night and they needed about 22 minutes to be fully cooked (then they went in the oven for added crispiness. Nom nom). If they're large tatties then I don't think 30 mins is *that* excessive :)

I was going to post the writing on the front of the microwave which said 4 tattys x amount of weight 30 mins but when i looked properly it said 4 tattys x amount of weight 10 minutes :o + ;D

You know this is all lies anyway & I was overclocking the ***** thing :p
