Pretty much as title...
There's a petition here (http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/remembermonday/) to create a new bank holiday on the second Monday of November as part of rememberance day.
I can see and understand the idea behind doing this, but I don't think it's necessary.
Please rearrange the following four words: happen going to not
:p
Lost count of how many requests there have been been for public holidays at various dates throughout the year. Not that I'd complain if it happened. Dec-May there's currently about seven days, June-Nov there's one.
I like this idea as I am always missing the local remembrance day events, which I really would love to be part of.
So yeh. Signed it.
So basically loads of lazy ****ers want another day off work ;D
I never miss Remembrance Sunday, and if the 11/11 lands during a day, I'd hope that most company's would observe a minutes silence (where feasible). Taking a whole day off for it is excessive. The idea is honourable, but it will be done for the wrong reasons.
Yes please
A Bank holiday then would be great, the stretch from August to Christmas is miserable enough as the weather gets worse and summer disappears, at least a bank holiday might provide a bit of cheer :)
Although actually having read the thread I don't think Remebrance day should be a bank holiday but should be the 2nd sunday as always, but there should be a bank holiday around then regardless, maybe last week of October or 1st November or thereabouts.

That's the way I see it. Using something like that as an excuse is a bit pathetic.
I always do the petition for St Georges Day as its my birthday too :p
Did that last year and did it do anything... nup.
Nice to try though! :D

I was rather disgusted that I was working at Lloyds TSB that day. Our shift was starting at 11.05 and we were told we could observe the silence if we wanted. Not one person did the entire place except for me :(
Fair enough to those who were on the phones at the time, although imo the customers shouldn't have been phoning during that minute anyhow, but my entire team at work were just sitting there chatting away about their Saturday night instead. Such a lack of respect imo.

/me feels pathetic :(
;)
As said above - I've always missed out on local events and it really makes me feel boo-er-fied... but then saying that, the major things I've missed was when I was with the police so bank hols or not I wouldn't have been able to go :)
As long as I can still do Sunday stuff/pay my respects then I will be happy.
IMO it's more deserved than May Day.
T'is a fair point that. No need for the extra day (though of course being a slacker I wouldn't say no), but exchanging one of the May holidays would seem a more reasonable idea to me.

My six months at HSBC in the call centre happened around the time 9/11. There was a silence arranged and we were told that the phones would be turned off, and that we could tell our customers if we were on a call at the time that we were observing the silence and would help then in a minute, literally.
So everyone in the call centre is quiet, except from one girl who's customer was not observing the silence. Everyone could hear her call!!!

St Georges Day would make a better public holiday.
But with a birthday on the 22nd of April I would say that. ;)
