I almost cannot bring myself to visit this great evil on people I know and love, be warned if you want to ruin your recollection of one of the greatest songs of the 90s then take in this abomination!

Sounds OK to me, but I don't know the original
As a yoof who has no real knowledge or appreciation of the original versions of the songs he's covered, I generally really like his work, and the album :o

Spudnik would agree with me, but Spudnik isn't here.

I <3 Mark Ronson...
/burns CDs to stick in Barney ;D ;D
Sucks.
Charlatans/Oasis/Sheds/OCS etc. are the main kinds of music I still listen to along with more modern stuff. You can argue that he's bringing it to a new audience but frankly I could live without that. It just seems to me like a subtle way of turning great but under appreciated songs into easy listening. Adding a trumpet and recording it with a pop singer is just sacrilege unless you're trying to be ironic. It's unfortunate that he isn't.
At least he didn't choose 'One To Another'. Then I would have had to kick a puppy.

Shoot him NOW!
heathen
I love the cover of Oh My God with Lilly Allen.
ditto. :)
I quite like his remixes and his work. he's been around a while in the rap & hiphop world so maybe that's why i'm more in tune with his style?
What I don't understand is how he can take someone elses song, get someone else to sing it then take credit for it.
I bloody hate that cover of Valerie. Thought it was novel at first BUT DOES IT HAVE TO BE EVERY OTHER DAMN SONG THEY PLAY ON THE RADIO?!!!!!!
Oh yeah it's over played for sure. I listen to LBC now instead - it's far more interesting :o

Maybe he has a lot of input in the style the singer is singing it in. He might also do a lot of the editing as well...but I see where you're coming from.
As for Ronson Johnson, I love the Version album and I think all of the songs are good. I don't care if somebody does a cover of a song I like, as long as it's done well and I think all of them are. In fact, I'm going to play the album all the way down to the girly meet next weekend just to piss off my passenger :D
I loved the album the first time I heard it.
Which... I distinctly remember was in your front room :p
;)
PS Mark Ronson has a gig in London on 22nd/23rd feb if anyones up for it lemme know! :D (need to confirm dates)

never heard of him.. cant do youtube at work.
not usually a big fan of any remake, I think its a lacking of talent to use other peoples material to promote yourself.
Lee - you're into your hiphop aren't you? If you are you will have heard him probably inadvertently.

I loved the cover of Just but the album is a bit hit and miss.
I can't use youtube at work so i have no idea which tracks have been linked to.
I loved Version, mainly good stuff on there.
This song is dire.. but hey you can't be great every single second of the day.
but hey you can't be great every single second of the day.
Says who? :D
i'll admit i do very much like Amy Whinehouse's Ronson version of Valerie
I wish this song would die. In the face. Twice.

I must admit I do like Ronsons production skills, definatly has his own "trumpet" style. Although I was trying to explain to Neil (bf) the other day what he did, that he kind of remixed the songs, but did his own bits, produced them, played instruments on them, did covers...But he just thought he's making money from other peoples talent.
As far as pop songs go though, I did sing "Stop Me" quite loudly when by myself:o

Another one that bugs me, even though I'm not a massive Morrissey fan. Many would argue that the tune has been improved (and to an extent I agree), but I think that's missing the point. There's some iconic songs that have changed the face of music and doing commercial cover versions of them is just wrong in my eyes. Does anyone remember Busted covering Teenage Kicks? McFly doing Don't Stop Me Now? Even Oasis doing My Generation... It just doesn't sit right.

I like it, as I like most of the album - especially 'Just' :D
Hadn't even heard of the guy until I went to see him live (for free! :D) and was generally impressed.
Can I add these guys to the firing line?

They deserve shooting that's for sho'. Mark Ronson's cool though.
Can't say I'm particularly enraptured my Ronson, although the Valerie one is kind of catching and different enough from the original to be a valid attempt.
The original whoops its botty though.
The cover of Toxic on the album is great too http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Ga-eIzPM2U
