So I've been thinking of getting one for a while now - I'd love to be able to get more photos of me and the rats for starters and then there is the fact I shake a fair bit when using zoom.

I don't want anything too expensive (as I don't really have the money) or heavy/big (as I would probably not use it as much and want to be able to take it about with me).
I only have a Finepix F31fd but Mic has a S6500fd and may want to have a go using whatever tripod I get.

The ones I've been looking at are Gorillapod (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Joby-GP3-01EN-Gorillapod-SLR-Zoom/dp/B000KFRSG4/ref=pd_sbs_ce?ie=UTF8&qid=1201344654&sr=1-12) and Travel (http://www.amazon.co.uk/SMALLEST-extendable-pocket-tripod-Compact/dp/B000NCECJU/ref=sr_1_11?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1201344654&sr=1-11)

I am looking at the £25 max mark.

Any advice, suggestions, pointers, etc would be great :)

Its possible that the camera shake is due to the shutter speed. When the shutter speed is less than the focal length you get blurry photos. So the trick is to not let that happen, usually by increasing the ISO, if you can. Thats only a guess, but quite often the case with zoom. I've heard good things about the Gorillapod.

I was cheap and got one from Argos, and its actually really good! Was in the sale for about £20 I think, and never had any problems with it...

I've played with a Gorilla pod, and they're great. You can wrap them around things too like a lamp post or something when you're out and about. Very versitile. Before I got my Manfrotto, I had a cheapy one from Jessops with a pan/tilt head. Was a good little tripod.

Gorillapods are great. Go for the larger one though. Gorillapod SLR iirc not the SLRZoom

You could also try one of these: Cheap and cheerful. :D

I was looking at one of the basic gorillapods (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Joby-GP1-0REN-GP1-OREN-Gorillapod-Red/dp/B000VRG0MY/ref=sr_1_13?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1201350900&sr=1-13) but one of the reviews said:
I'd recommend buying the *SLR-Zoom* version if you have any kind of SLR or even bridge/hybrid camera, even if it doesn't exceed the weight limit of the *SLR* version. Once you add a tripod head, flash, maybe a bigger lens or lens extensions/filters, it adds quite a bit of weight. Better to be on the safe side!

Which is why I linked to that one

As I said I only have a lil baby compact but I just know Mic will try to pinch...I mean borrow whatever I get :p

Just go with the SLR - the SLRzoom doesn't have a little neck that you can adjust once it's mounted - makes it slightly less stable, but much more useable.

Just go with the SLR

Cool - added to my amazon wishlist - I'll see how I get on with the one from FS and then look at getting myself the gorillapod for out and about :) Thank you :)

Yep I just bought this for my 6500, although it's the one with the bag.. It does have a quick release and fixes well. Very stable too. :)
