View Full Version : Achievements
Thought it would be fun for people to list some of their favourite achievements. Try the following format but feel free to add your own categories. :)
Proudest Achievement
Tomb Raider: Anniversary - IRON Raider (160gp - 4x40)
For the last couple of weeks I have desperately been trying to complete these. There are four - one for each of the four countries over fourteen levels. Essentially you have to complete every country without dying. If you try and get the achievements from the off when you first play the game you can cheat by saving the game at the last checkpoint and reloading when you die, but once you finish the game you can only replay levels and can't save in the middle of one. I've just managed to do it properly by completely restarting the level if I die. Took me freaking ages considering every mistake is a potential death - bottomless pits, missed jumps, leaps of faith, mistakes in combat... Really pleased I got them though.
Biggest WTF Achievement
COD4 - Rescue Roycewicz (20gp) and Man of the People (10gp)
Complete accidents. Knifed the guy on the stairs as he attacked a fellow soldier, and later on recklessly shot a man in the head through the wall of a hut, saving a farmer!
Funniest Achievement
Bioshock - Toaster in the Tub (10gp)
If you've played Bioshock you no doubt have this achievement as well. :D
Best Achievement Aiding Replayability
The Orange Box - Little Rocket Man (30gp) or The One Free Bullet (40gp)
Ignoring the Tomb Raider achievements I went back for which didn't really add anything to the game, these two changed the game enough to make it more challenging in ways that differed from the normal modification of simply making the regular game harder. These made me think outside the (orange!) box far more.
Most Anticipated Achievement
Bioshock - Bulletproof (100gp)
This is a new bonus achievement recently added. Complete the game on hard without using a Vita-Chamber. Similar vein to the IRON Raider achievements which gave me a real challenge. Look forward to it!
Oooh very good thread idea imo :)
I'll make sure to post in the morning with my views. You've got some good calls there already :D
My next big attempt is to try and get 1000gp in Dead Rising. Currently trying to get all the transmissions for the Transmissionary achievement and then going for Saint. Both only worth 20gp each though I think.
They're all 20G in DR, 50 of :) Kinda harsh when you look at some of them.
My most WTF achievement was Barnacle Bowling (5G) in the Orange Box. Did it in HL2, was in some sewers I think and saw one on the ceiling down a slope. Saw an exploding barrel, sent it rolling down the slope and he took the bait as it were. As it was close to the top, I popped a couple of bullets in it and boom it went... followed by a shower of dead alien innards... achievement unlocked! Turns out there were tons of the buggers up there that I hadn't seen ;D

Proudest Achievement
Guitar Hero 2 - 400k Club (30GP)
Simply for the amount of time I had to put in to perfect Freebird, learning the song structure and knowing exactly where I had to activate star power. Thankfully it was great fun to play otherwise I'd never have got it.
Biggest WTF Achievement
Madden NFL 06 - Activate RS Card (10GP)
Press the right stick down, get an achievement. Where's the skill in that?
Funniest Achievement
Dead Rising - Costume Party (20GP)
Get novelty heads and stick them onto the heads of zombies. Comedy gold :D
Best Achievement Aiding Replayability
Dead Rising - All of them (1000GP)
Can't narrow it down to a single achievement, but all of them in Dead Rising have kept me going through multiple playthroughs when in reality it's a short game that doesn't need to be played through that often. Like Belmit I still want to get 1000 points on it, so only 4 achievements left now.
Most Anticipated Achievement
Ninja Gaiden 2 - All of them (1000GP)
None have been announced yet, but I'm sure it will come as no surprise to anyone to learn that these are the achievements I'm really looking forward to taking on. I expect some insanely difficult ones as well as some stupidly easy ones as well.
CoD... 94% Unlocked
it will be the greatest achievement ever when i get Mile High Club... and then if i can be bothered to go through again Eyes and Ears would make this the greatest game evah - complete :D
Proudest Achievement
Gears of War - Insane Difficulty Achievements (4 x 30gp)
It's technically cheating because I haven't actually completed Act 5 thanks to falling out with the guy I was playing through co-op with at the time :o But every time I gained one of the insane achievements, I felt extremely proud of myself. I'm generally not a very good FPS player, I muddle through :p So this was a big achievement for me :)
Of course now I've just thought of completing Call of Duty 2 veteran levels which are also extremely satisfying to do :o
Biggest WTF Achievement
The Orange Box - Defiant (5gp)
A complete accident. I was just messing around with a can early on in HL2 and threw it at the cop, cue an achievement unlocked :D
Funniest Achievement
Shadowrun - Shadowrun Fever (25gp)
An achievement for teabagging dead bodies....you can't beat it for originality :D
Best Achievement Aiding Replayability
Football Manager 2006/2007 - All of Them(100gp)
I've always loved the Champ and Football Manager on the PC but these achievements really encourage me to stick with the 360 versions at the moment (that and being able to sit comfortably instead of at a desk). They cover a wide range of different things to achieve, meaning it takes a very long time to 1k (I haven't yet) but is extremely satisfying. Roll on FM2008 for the 360. :)
Most Anticipated Achievement
Call of Duty 4 - Deep and Hard (90gp)
Playing through CoD4 entirely on the veteran difficulty. I'm doing it slowly bit by bit and really enjoying it. Be immensely satisfying when I 1k it :)

Proudest Achievement
Guitar Hero 3 - 5* Hard Mode (30gp)
Taken me ages to do, stuck on 3 songs for most of the time, pretty much been trying full on since I got the game, so proper chuffed
Biggest WTF Achievement
Not sure - N/A N/A
I've never really been suprised by an achievement, as I normally read the lists before buying a game, so I know how each achievement is gained, though it's probably the Madden RS one
Funniest Achievement
Gears Of War - Clusterluck (20gp)
Grenade.....BOOM! Great fun to watch.
Best Achievement Aiding Replayability
Guitar Hero series - All of Them(100gp)
Getting top scores to get achievements is bloody hard, but the games a lot of fun so I don't care :)
Most Anticipated Achievement
Call of Duty 4 - Deep and Hard (90gp)
It'll be such a relief when I get this, the damn Ferris wheel is killing me atm.
Also, appologies to Jen, I havent updated my sig in a while, so um....enjoy my new score ;)
I've known you've been in the lead for a while :p
Currently trying to get all the transmissions for the Transmissionary achievement
This is doing my head in. Had to restart twice now having got more than half the transmissions each time. If any of you ever want to attempt it let me know and I'll tell you what I did wrong (or rather, I'll reveal the little glitches that the game guides don't tell you about). Third time lucky...
I just thought you were happy staying at 10000 :D
I'll admit I specifically sought out two or three easy achievements to get me to the magic number! It just so happens that I haven't managed to complete one since then. :(

Feel free to divulge, as I'll be using a guide when I eventually try to do it :)
OK, here goes!
There's 38 transmissions to get (available freely off that internet). For the most part there's only a few basic rules:
- For the main game missions you can't be in the security room when the time comes for the case to open i.e. if it says 'next case starts at 6am', don't be there at that time. Otis needs to radio you to remind you to get back there.
- For the alerts for side missions you can't be in the section of the mall where the survivors appear. E.g. you can't be in Al Fresca Plaza when the first side mission (Barricade Pair) begins. Otis calls you to alert you to them. This isn't too difficult to achieve as the alerts come at exact times - usually on the hour or a quarter past - so as long as you have a list of when the calls are due you'll be OK.
- Make sure you're not engaged in combat or in a tricky spot when the transmission comes through. When the call comes you have to stay on the radio for the duration of the call or it gets interrupted. You can't wield a weapon when on the radio so can't defend yourself. If you get attacked or nudged by a zombie, or fall off a surface, the call is interrupted. Otis will only call three times for each alert if interrupted before giving up, but occasionally there's two or three alerts in succession so delaying one may bump others off the queue.
That's about it for the main part but there are a couple of things the guides don't mention. Hopefully these are the only two glitches as I've now been caught out by both of them.
1. When you get back to the security room to complete a main case, hang around long enough for it to register the end of the case. After finishing the medicine run case I returned to the room and Jessie said 'Thanks for getting the medicine', and then I left. Eventually the time for the next case came around and I got no alert. Upon returning to the security room the case ended and the others timed out. Balls.
2. I assumed it was safe to not rescue anyone non-essential to the transmissionary achievement. There are six named people from side quests who have to be rescued in order to get all the transmissions (which I was aware of), because after they are back in the security room they have other demands that you get called back for. The first of these is the Restaurant Man who you have to rescue by giving him food so he'll follow you. No problem. Unfortunately when it came to the time where you're supposed to get a call saying he's demanding more food or he'll mutiny, I got nothing. It turns out (after a spot of research) that you have to have 5-7 people rescued already in order for it to activate. This glitch happens with a couple of the other survivors as well - if you haven't saved enough people you won't get the call about any mutinies. This means that you can't just cruise through the game missing the non-essential survivors and just going for the ones required for the mutiny transmissions, because they won't activate unless the level of other survivors is high enough. Sucks, but that appears to be the case. On my third attempt I've already rescued about seven people, with a couple more in hand, so hopefully when it gets to the Restaurant Man it'll sort itself out.
Hope that's clear enough! I'll update it if I get anything else.
\o/
Edit: Just looking through the other achievements for DR - completely forgot about the five and seven day survivor ones. Those are the golden eggs.
For pure thank **** for that appeal.
I finally completed Bladestorm and got the 150gp achievement for clearing the story.
It's quite a fun game, but it did feel rather neverending at times after 40hrs of play. I suppose any game based on the 100 years war is going to feel a bit long though :p
I've still got 2 achievements to go for, but not sure if I can be bothered. Certainly no time soon.

*Ears prick up*
How much :p
Erm....£15? Seems to be about right looking at ebay. It's a promo copy though just so you know. :) Let me know.

Is there any real difference between a promo copy and full release?
It has promo written across the box in yellow (like bundle copies do), the disc has no picture printed on it, and there's no manual.
You really don't need the manual though due to the tutorial in the game and the fact the controls are simple. :D

It's very tempting, I take it the achievements are easy to get, just time consuming? I'll have a think about it.
900pts are from playing through the game. Then there's 2 50pt secret achievements which are more time consuming than anything, they seem easy enough to do with a guide and some time but I cba :p

I love the idea of achievements. It brings an extra elements to all gaming and something to share and talk about. Shame it's not really caught on the PC. I have a pathetic 90 points on my xbox live account from playing GoW on PC. :p
