I'm all excited! Got it for £297 at Jessops (vouchers codes actually schockingly managed to make them competitive!), I think the extra £20 or so is worth it to be able to go and get it myself, and also have someone to moan at if it's soft down the left side, which apparently many are. I thought it safer to drop the extra cash for that option.
I'm all excited, nothing useful in this thread, sorry!
\o/ Awesome :D Brilliantly fun lens. So wide its insane.

I have a really stupid question
With landscape stuff involving water... is there a filter that enhances reflections? I mean... if you just use a lens with no filter at all, it's normal behaviour is to capture reflections on water, if they're there, right?
How does one go about capturing them the best way?
I know it's really stupid question, I can't even think how to word it.. but what I mean is, by 'default', cameras will tend to capture reflections, right? That's what polarizers are for, to stop reflections?
[/daft]
Polarizers can remove reflections. I'm not sure of a filter that aids in getting them. You just need the right light really.

Good :)
I assumed as much, but I got all paranoid :/
Thanks for not laughing at my stupid question!
Its not silly. If you ask which way round you put it then I'll laugh :p

In theory if you align a polarizing lens with the plane of reflection instead of against it you will remove a greater proportion of light that isn't part of your reflected image. So the reflection should be clearer.
If that doesn't make sense say so and I'll have another go at putting physics into english. I don't always do it well.:o
Its funny with polarizers. Theres some magic trick to using them correctly but I just turn it and move about till it works.

I'd like to help but I've only used them with lasers.
Must be why photography is an art and physics is a science.:D
rather wide lens!
my mate's just bought a 40d with 17-85 plus battery grip. Had a go and its amazing, puts my 300d to shame.
Now he's trying to convince me to buy one and pay over 12 months!!
lol - don't you start... i was planning on buying a big tv for nearly as much as the camera (body)
Well, technically speaking the 40D is only faster at writing to the card, faster at starting up, faster fps, better ISO, AI servo tracking for sports, bigger display and has a nicer build to it. However if you take a shot on the 300D at ISO100 and 40D at ISO100 I doubt you'd be able to say which is which. Spend the money on a lens.

Sure you wouldn't want one of these (http://gizmodo.com/353073/canon-120056l-usm-the-bfg-of-telephoto-lenses) instead?
Infact how about of these (http://gizmodo.com/353422/i-see-london-i-see-france-i-see-your-underpants-from-32-miles-away-with-canon-5200mm-ultra-telephoto-lens) better zoom ;D

this 10-20mm, is this the New Sigma lens ! ?
Nah. I've had mine over 2 years.

Have to agree with this. When I upgraded from a 300D to a 30D, I didn't do it for image quality. Good job really as I noticed no difference. The 30D is just loads faster and I think I'd be completely lost without my 2 wheels now. Bigger screen was a nice to have too. :D
The auto dust shakey thing would be useful on the 40D... assuming it works well??? I'm not arsed about the live preview feature because I prefer looking through the viewfinder, so I'm a bit set in my ways :p
What do you have? I thought it was a 350D. Have you upgraded moddum?? :)
OOOOO!!!!!! I've no idea what I was thinking actually :o Perhaps I was thinking of Pebs' camera... she has a 350D, right? I lose track!! I still think my 30D is new and it's well over a year old, hehe.

I do like the 40D, I think I will stick with my 400D for a few more years then hopefully pick up used or sale 40D
