View Full Version : Brands hatch novice day
Just looking at this and i'm tempted. It will be comedy in the Focus, but dammit I think it'll be money well spent :D

Not cheap but anyone interested?
Snetterton is a fair bit cheaper

Snetterton is also an easier track to learn. It's pretty much a rectangle with a couple of switchbacks in the long ends. It's also one fo the fastest tracks in the UK.
However, Brands is a damn sight more fun. :D
Snet is a very underated track IMO. On paper, it looks pretty boring but it's actually a nice track. But like you say, Brands is a damn sight more fun...and special.
If you do Snetterton we might well join you. It's only 10 minutes down the road and we need to fit in a trackday or 2 somewhere to get Vix a bit more experience.
Yeah Snetterton!!! I want to do a novice day sooon!

Oh don't get me wrong, I love Snetters, it's my home track. I've done many thousands of laps around there in many different vehicles. It's just that Brands is much more fun. :D
If you do Snetterton, I may be able to pop along with something for a bit of fun. ;) As long as the volume restrictions are sensible. :D
There aren't any at Snet as far as I know (volume restrictions)
I hope not anyway, Humphrey's got the stainless Janspeed exhaust. He aint quiet :)
I think I'm gonna do the Snet novice day anyway so if anyone else is interested, I'll be there! There's a bit of room at our house if it's a long way for anyone.

In some ways its tempting but the idea of a new set of rubber and pads on Minnie puts me off as it won't be cheap. I'll give it some consideration.

105 dB(A) static by the looks of things. Unfortunately you might struggle to blag this bit:
THIS EVENT IS STRICTLY FOR NOVICES ONLY. EXPERIENCED DRIVERS WHO BOOK INTO THIS EVENT WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO PARTICIPATE AND WILL NOT BE OFFERED A REFUND.
FOR THE AVOIDANCE OF DOUBT – TYPICALLY WE CATEGORISE A NOVICE TRACKDAY DRIVER AS SOMEONE WHO HAS DONE LESS THAN 3 TRACKDAYS BEFORE BUT IF YOU ARE UNSURE AS TO WHETHER OR NOT YOU FALL INTO THIS CATEGORY THEN CALL US ON 0870 850 5014.
There's an open pit day the day after which might be a better option, little bit more expensive but it would give more flexibility.
I wonder how they'd class me. I've done countless trackdays on a bike, but none in a car. If my car was better, I'd like to give it a whirl on track.
Not sure how they would actually be able to prove anything anyway. As long as you don't arrive in a fully sponsored Ferrari with your name down the side and a pile of sponsors, who can tell?
What counts as a trackday? I have racked up thousands of hours on track but I have never ever done a "track day".

Yup that's the other thing! I will have been on a track three times by then, but never a track day.
I'm guessing that the only way they'll know is if you're a regular at the circuit or if you turn up in a full on race car. Just act nervous in the briefing, ask a few stupid questions and don't make everyone else look too slow and you should be fine :p
I've never done a track day either although I've done 2 sprints and my fair share of karting.
Hit the gravel on the first corner and they'll never know you're a pro :D

He did that in his first sprint anyway :p

same for me really
I would love to have a so, and stretch the scooby properly
but it is mostly unlikely this year.

Lies.
It was the third corner and I'd done a few clean runs by then.
So Snetterton is looking likely then? Any chance of nicking floor space, cheeky I know but it would save a drive to get there for 7:30 :o
I brought new pads in Oct/Nov and the car has barely done any miles <1k since then and new rears with about 600miles on them :D
One further question..... should I turn the TC off when doing track driving

edit - There seems to be a lot more track day experience people on here than I realised, nice one

Prety much same here. Done 5 track days in my life. :D
This for road cars only?
Floor space is no problem Zirax, did you particularly want to do the novice day (6x20 minute sessions so you'll have to go out when you're told to go out, plus a track full of people who don't really know what they're doing) or are you open to doing the proper day the day after instead (Open pit so go out as and when you feel like it, plus fewer nervous inexperienced types on track, but it's a little more expensive)
Would have thought the novice day will be road cars only. Having said that ours will be stripped out but still road legal (and driven to the circuit).
If it's a big problem we can always do the Thursday instead which has none of the novice restrictions and (I think) will allow anything just about anything as long as it's safe and not not open wheel.
I have checked and the open day does cover novice track drivers with instruction. I'm not worried either way really, the main thing being booking some instruction time and just getting some experience.
I mean I have been hooning around for six years, but no track time. Only concern is getting nutters on track on the open day. TBH I'm not sure what to expect :)
The only problem you might have on the open day is that there could be some pretty quick machinery about. Will just mean you'll have to watch the rear view mirror a bit more and make sure you let them past in plenty of time on the straights.
What I was thinking was that I'd rather be on track with a bunch of professionals, so if I *** up, they know what to do to get around me, rather than panicking and making things worse.
Also I don't have to book a holiday off work if it's a Thurs, as I can ust skive college muahahaa :p
I would love to do the Open Pit day, depending on funds (it might be close enough to my birthday to get my parents to buy it for me, else I have no chance :p)
Now that the car has come through the sprint unscathed I've booked me and vix in the for the open pit day at Snetterton on the 27th. Anyone else still interested in joining us?
Damn tempted, alas everything is on hold until the windows are done. Not that I am miffed about putting it all on hold :D
