Tonight our router appears to have died :( the status light has gone out and it despite everything I have done I can't get it to light up.
Does anyone have any suggestions of how to get it working again or suggestions of a way to get a super cheap wireless router we can use with our cable modem?
Cheers :D
If it's showing no lights at all then chances are it's the PSU. If it's showing some lights chances are it's the circuit board. D-link hardware, particularly older stuff, apparently have issues with heat so it may have cooked itself. :(
As for a cheap replacement, be careful. Like most things you get what you pay for. :(

I'm getting all lights except the status light which isn't blinking anymore.
Sounds like a firmware/processor problem then. Routers often turn all the lights on during the boot process so it's obviously not getting further than that.
Could have a search around to see if there's any tips for dealing with a 'bricked' router for your model, but I don't hold out much hope.

the router is running as the wan & wlan lights are active and the modem is sending data to the router I just can't connect via wireless or wired connection :(
Tried finding the reset hole before you go looking for de-bricking solutions?

I have tried find the reset hole and it doesn't do anything. I've followed the instructions and I can't get it work.
Well, that's all I got then. Sounds like it's gone to the router graveyard. :(

I think so mate, everything else seems fine. Just tried connecting to the router with a statically assigned IP and it doesn't respond. It isn't dishing out ip address now :( Just trying to scope out possible alternatives but can't afford much as both cars have been MOT'd this month and had to have parts bought :(

cable mate
I have a Belkin router that might or might not have wireless "issues" - you are more than welcome to have it :) It certainly works for the wired part but the wireless bit I don't ever use and my sister has claimed it has been a bit iffy.
My alternative is that I lend you my Cisco 871W but I don't have the antennae for it and I reckon you'd have to know IOS fairly well to get it set up.
Let me know :)

If you don't mind me having your belkin router that would be ace mate, thanks a bunch :D Are you likely to be in Liverpool tomorrow?
Its at home, I was thinking of going home in the next day or so... result?
At least as a short-term thing to get you back online it should be OK, even if its not the best router ever / doesn't last :)

That is awesome mate you are a star :) Aslong as we can get back online that is the main issue as I'm currently stealing a neighbour's wireless :p

If you are likely to be around during the day send me a text as I'll be at work and toyou could drop it off there if you like :)
I don't know what time I will be about - I will drop you a text and let you know.

ok mate, you about today  or do you mean you'll text me when you are about? :o
Hehehe! I am still in Manchester at the moment - the router is at my parents and you are... somewhere (either at home or at work). I need to call in to see petemc too.
I will send you a text when I am at home and we can take it from there.

We're ready to rock!
Where would I acquire a replacement power supply when you want yours back? Wireless works well too :D
No idea - IIRC its fairly generic and the charger for my ipaq just happened to be the right voltage, polarity and fitment :)
I don't need it back urgently, but at some point in the future I will need it, by which time you will probably have got a decent replacement router anyway (ie not a d-link or a belkin!)
The wireless only seemed to be a problem intermittently and only when using encryption. Not that I use wireless at all anyways :D
