View Full Version : With Valentines day just around the corner, the question has to be..

Would you ever buy these? (http://www.interflora.co.uk/catalog/product.xml?product_id=2178182;category_id=1000333 ;pcid1=;pcid2=&cm_re=valentines-_-product-_-infatuation)

Unanimous "NO" at work. I've asked a couple of women their opinions too just in case our predominantly male workforce was biased and both felt they wouldn't like to get them. One of them commented that if the bloke felt that they had to buy them then they were probably apologising, and that "doing a Kobi" was better. Further interrogation revealed that to be "Kobi Bryant" an american basketball player who bought his wife a 4 carat diamond to apologise for cheating on her.

FIVE HUNDRED QUID?!?!?! I'd ask Phil why the hell he wasn't paying for Sakuras welding if he had that kind of money to waste on flowers. Sheesh.

Called "Infatuation"? Thats worrying enough, imagine if you got those off a stalker ;D

I think its pathetic spending that much on flowers, after all, they die after a week :/

Even if we were rolling in it that is such a waste!!!

Hmmmm if you can comfortably afford them, in the right situation (a romantic time away somewhere which is planned coinciding with valentines) then maybe. But chances are slim :p. Them on there own is a bit =/ they would have to be part of some extravagant get-away etc...

Me - No, I'm not taken, nor can i comfortably afford them (I wish :p) also I'm not doing anything extravegantly romantic for the day (I'm going to a traffic light party at a club  oh yeeeeah).

What... is a traffic light party?

Wear green if you're single and well up for shagging virtually anyone you meet

Wear amber if you're single and might be up for something if someone nice happens across your path

Wear red if you're taken or not interested in catching any STDs

Basically. That's how it works at Uni anyway.

Green = Sex on a plate
Amber = Sex with some effort
Red = Don't bother trying it on

What... is a traffic light party?

All the blokes wear green, girls wear red/yellow else they get mauled by the blokes (or are after the attention). Least thats what happened in Chelmsford.

Would I buy them? Hmmm, depends on who I was trying to date ;) Those A-list models are soooo damn demanding, bloody woman :p

So given that i'm unlikely to get a foot taller, wake up and suddenly be built like Rambo..... no I wouldn't. However red roses into the build up for popping the question .... now that is another matter (but it wouldn't be on valentines day obv).

Mark
12-02-2008, 21:24
People who buy those are hardly going to admit to it, are they? :p

PS - 12% cashback from Quidco*. :D:D

* Telling your partner this is a sure way to end up with them wrapped around your noggin. ;D

Thats really going to be a bad night for a colour blind guy / girl. £500 on roses is well, a lot. I guess if I had millions then sure why not. However, this is win (http://www.aquarterof.co.uk/large-wooden-romance-p-1401.html). Romantic penny sweets!

I would honestly rather someone bought me a £5 bunch from tescos and donate the 'change' to a charity.

That said, I would accept coilovers instead :)

As for the traffic light party, i think no matter what my status I would always wear red :p

I would be like...

"OMG... these are for me? No way! That's RIDICULOUSLY Priced! Are you mad?! You'd never do that! Wait a minute... who are you?! What have you done with Picky!?! GIVE ME BACK MY PICKY!! I WANT MY PICKY BACK" *Slam slam slam with the flowers in the face*

What a waste of good money.

If Picky had £500 to spend on me though I would hope he would buy me a DS, sat nav and some doovds.

The rest we could buy a HUGE take away with! Nom nom nom!

Though if I had to pick flowers or charity.... it would, without hesitation, go STRAIGHT to cancer research.

:p Personally wouldn't, but also it's bonus month in banker town so there'll probably be a few being purchased round these parts...!

Suppose it's all relative really, if you get a £10k bonus then £500 on some roses for the OH isn't that much!

*edit*

Hehe traffic light parties always good

Green - Easy
Amber - Not quite so easy
Red - A challenge...lol :p

I almost get the impression that they're aimed at the kind of person who'll buy them because of how much they cost rather than in spite of it.

Will
13-02-2008, 14:12
If money was no object sure why not? As my financial situation stands, no chance. For a start they don't look that great, I've created nicer bouqets at florists before, secondly it seems more about "look at the cost" rather than "look at the thought and care and love that has gone into chosing these flowers".

I thought they looked quite nice, but we don't buy dead flowers. If I can find anywhere that sells potted plants in Southampton, I shall purchase a nice one, but roses are a terrible cliché. Besides, there are much nicer flowers.

Sainsburys in Shirley had potted Valentine's plants along with cut flowers I think. I wasn't paying a great deal of attention as I was in a rush to go grab something but i'm fairly sure they had some.

Loads of places sell potted plants though, the Range on Winchester Road does, Homebase near Dock Gate 20 etc.

I don't think they look that nice really, not to mention the cost. I like roses but i like bunches of flowers that have more than one type of flower in them, it just looks nicer. Right now if i had someone who wanted to spend £500 on my it would go on the mot bill i've just had that has wiped out any spare money i'll have (paying parents back thankfully otherwise not a chance of affording it) for the next few months. The left over money maybe a small bunch of flowers and charity.
Jasper no need for that attitude really.

Jasper
14-02-2008, 15:28
Sorry, it's apparently lack of sense of humour day as well. And Blackstar, mind your own - wasn't even talking to/about you in case you didn't notice. How's that for attitude

If someone likes roses you buy them roses regardless if it's obvious or not

Jasper
14-02-2008, 15:52
oooook, why is everyone missing this today?! this is how this conversation has gone for me:

me: I don't like roses, I think they're a bit of a cliché
kitten: if someone likes roses, then it's ok
me: (paraphrased) well, surely that's obvious (that it's ok to buy someone roses if they like them, regardless of whether it's a cliché or not)
everyone else: rararar, how dare you be so rude?!

please let me get this straight before anyone misconstrues this any futher.

All I was saying was that surely it's obvious that it's cool to buy roses if people like them, regardless of justification.

I was going to apologise, but I didn't mean anything by that comment, so I don't think I should have to. Kitten, I only said that the way I did because I thought that you would get what I was on about. I didn't mean to offend you, even though I appear to have. It was a sarcastic, throwaway comment. I thought I'd known you guys long enough to be able to make those kinds of comments in good humour, but I was obviously wrong. I shall go back to lurking, as I obviously cause far too much trouble when I actually post here.

Desmo
14-02-2008, 15:53

Dude, cool it. What you said was offensive, not funny, no matter how you meant it to come across. Given a few of us feel the same way, too, and I'm in a laughing mood today, its obvious the delivery must have got it across wrong. I'd suggest you back away now before you offend even more people.

Aww common people, lets spread some love!

I LOVE YOU GUYS!

*spreads some love*

I've been thinking and I have decided as opposed to some £500 flowers this gorgeous menu would woo a million times more:

Starters:
BIG JUICY Prawns, in a light lime and coriander dressing

Mains:
Duck pancake rolls with hoisin sauce (you could try and do the whole "lady and the tramp" spaghetti scene with them! Though saying that I might munch off the reciprocating persons face due to my sheer love of Duck pancake rolls!) and some other yurmy type starters like chicken skewers and ribs and things. NOM.

Dessert:
Brownies. And Ben and Jerrys icecream on top. The cookie dough one! NOM!

*I hasn't had the lunch yet... can you guess ;)*

I tell you what may be interesting... to see malcs reaction if I start typing out that famous film Brad Pitt stars in as a gypsy.... what's it called again? I can't quite remember? Any one? I'm sure it's something like Hatch? Batch? Was it Match? It was something like that...

OH NO WAIT A MINUTE! I KNOW WHAT IT IS!

SNATCH!

*sits and waits with popcorn*

Trouble is Garp, it only takes one person to say it's a negative comment and then that is ingrained into people as they read the thread. Personally, if you read it back, it can easily be seen as a sarcastic and jokey comment as well. OK, so a ;) would have helped a little, but it shouldn't always be necessary here.
