Before I begin then I'd like to state, as most of you already know, that whilst I will ridicule any and every religion I have respect for people who actually have a belief in something (see my sig).

However.

I've just watched a cutting edge documentary about preachers in the states.

But not just preachers, every one of the preachers involved was a child.

There were actually three of them, a 7 year old from the deep south, a 9 year old gospel preacher and an 11 year old girl in Rio De Janero (sp?).

All three of the stories horrified me.

The 9 year old was a child who had been abandoned by his parents and brought up by his grandmother (damn she was scary) and was a proper "PRAISE THE LORD" Gospel preacher. That in itself wasn't so bad, it was the fact that his father, now his child was quite famous, had suddenly taken an interest and everything he said about his son was to do with marketing him.

The 11 year old girl was hopelessly devoted to her father and through his insistence was preaching to the police prison (her father being an ex-policeman who spent time in that prison) to try and save souls...

But the worst was the 7 year old who was being taken on a road trip to the centres of power in the states to try and save sinners. The worst part of this particular story was the look on the poor kid's face when his father was being mercilessly ripped into by people in New York.

Now as I believe I said at the start of this post, I have no problem with people having belief. But the extent to which these people seem to have brainwashed (this is the best word I can come up with) and forced their children into doing what they want them to do is just as bad as the pushy parents that force their kids into beauty pageants/acting and the like (this is even mentioned by the little seven year old).

If you can get this programme on 4oD (it may well be there) then I advise you to watch it, but be prepared to cringe.

Well, you know what I do and what I believe, Dym, but this upsets me too. I don't think any child at that age is really solidly believing something on their own...they haven't had time to question what they were taught yet. I think the 11 year old more likely has a bit more of a clue than the 7 year old...
Interesting story though.
