I'm sorely missing mountain biking atm due to about a million and one things that could go wrong with my bike and subsequent orders for new parts etc...
I hope i will be able to get it all sorted this tuesday(ish). Before i go into detail, anyone else mountain bike at all here? :)

Kind of....although I'm :o to say my bike is WAY above my riding level, but I saw it in a shop window and HAD to have it :o

It's a 2004 Marin Mount Vision. Sitting in the shed having not been ridden for a while now. Need to start getting out in the evenings now it's getting lighter and start doing some long summer rides....looking forward to it :D

Just sold my bike :( For about an eighth of it's value :(

Might get a cheapo Halfords job for the summer though, my Azonics was far too advanced for me now, plus I was too scared to leave it anywhere!

I've still got a passable bike but it is getting on a bit now and I haven't been riding properly for years now. I think Raymond Lin might be into MTBing or at least he had a pimped up bike last time I saw a picture of it.

Cool a few of us own decent bikes at least, means you may know what i'm talking about :)
I've got an '04 Spec Hard Rock with:
Mavic XC717 Disc rims with Hope pro II hubs - Got these second hand over last summer excellent deal
Shimano LX front rear mech and shifters - finally went 9 speed after getting a 9 speed cassette and deciding my front mech was totally worn out...
Avid Juicy 7 brakes & rotors Front 185 rear 160 - second hand from a friend who was getting rid, my first time on discs and i'm impressed!
Marzocchi Bombers MX pro sport ETA (or whatever they call them :D) - only expensive thing i've bought *new* for my bike apart from replacing bent handlebars and mechs
Crank Bros candy SL's - love them they came as a deal with the wheels (eBay :D).

My trusty bike is all up and running again now after a long hiatus and i can't wait to get uni work out of the way and get on with a bit of riding again... I'm worried at just how unfit i'm going to be again now though...

I have a mountain bike, whether it's seen any mountains in the last 12 months it's debatable. :p

I'll ask my boss where he rides today as the places sound awesome and they're in North Wales I believe.

Alex, you ever used Nokia Sports Tracker on your phone with a GPS unit? It's actually pretty good as you can upload your routes onto a comp and into GoogleEarth...

...but now they've got their own site :D http://sportstracker.nokia.com

Just signed up and you can upload your routes and share them with everybody or just friends. Looks quite good so far.

Yeah i have actually the latest beta whatever that is, is bloody well excellent. Used some version of it to death when i did my 50k marathon around south wales, works really well, tonnes of info after rides :) I don't use it all that often but when i do I generally pad my phone/gps a lot then stuff it in my saddle bag but there isn't much room for extrenous stuff in there except for spare innertubes when i go out on rides. I need a decent camelbak or something. It would be nice to get some extra info on rides. What i want most is a bullet cam, theyre so freaking awesome and some of the trails we do deserve it!

A bullet cam? I got one of those :D

Should dig it out of the cupboard and get it strapped up.

Damn you :p
:( So many crashed of mine i've wanted to capture on a bullet came for later laughs...
As well as hair raising decents of course ;)

Went around the pentlands for 3 hours today, abosolutely loved it. It's been too long! But alas i'm totally crap! Nearly stacked it so many times. I'm just not used to my bars, brakes, shifters, wheels you name it :p doesn't help but had fun fun fun! :D

Despite my bars being quite wide, I forgot how quickly my bike steers. When I was out the other night I tried to cut around a post and smacked my shoulder right into it ;D

It's amazing how quickly you can get crap :D

:D Yeah i've been using free flats since i bent my last one, well over a year ago. Now i'm back on my risers again, but i'm just not used to it yet... Anyways just spent some (more :( ) money. But after looking around i've managed to cheap out on everything it seems, i'm only after basic stuff atm, anything is better than nothing they say. After spending a fortune to fix my bike up so i can use it again properly (after basically a year of nothing) i don't feel so rich and i'll put up with poor quality stuff if i can get out there better than now :)

Base Layer (http://www.wiggle.co.uk/ProductDetail.aspx?Cat=cycle&ProdID=5360031536&n=dhb%20dhb%20Compton%20Round%20Neck%20Base%20Laye r): £11.99 - long sleeved, flatlocked and elastic what more can i ask for?
Jacket (http://www.wiggle.co.uk/ProductDetail.aspx?Cat=cycle&ProdID=5360030696): £26.99 - simple waterproof breathable, no mesh for packing tight and pockets :)
Jersey (http://www.wiggle.co.uk/ProductDetail.aspx?Cat=cycle&ProdID=5360031272&n=dhb%20dhb%20Buriton%20L/S%20Jersey): £17.99 on top of base layer for the colder days which won't be around for much longer but they will be here next year too! Chose yellow for something difference to black/grey/red :D
Sealskinz (http://www.wiggle.co.uk/ProductDetail.aspx?Cat=cycle&ProdID=5360033019&n=SealSkinz%20Hi-Vis%20Waterproof%20Sock): £15.99 cheapest waterproof sock i've found anywhere, i'm not bothered as long as my feet don't get wet when i end up in the mud (as today ended).
DHB shoes (http://www.wiggle.co.uk/ProductDetail.aspx?Cat=cycle&ProdID=5360033176&n=dhb%20dhb%20M1%20Shoes): £32.99 cheaper than the Vipers, i've heard of DHB, three strap and cleat compatible, perfect.

Total - £105.95 I can get a tenner at least off from wiggle with their discount code, haven't checked if they'll give me free postage yet though. Anything wrong with all that, seems a lot for £95 :D

Everything arrived and its as sweet as! i had a stationary fall (:D) with the shoes upon first use today(quite hilarious from an outsiders perspective) but apart from that they are sexual!
Base layer is a size too big, wish i'd ordered a size smaller so its pretty much skin tight (but i'll live with it). Jersey and jacket are perfect, just what the doctor ordered, so i've been out once today, and i can't wait to get out again and test myself on a track properly (i probably WILL die if i'm not careful though :p).

I've recently bought a new mountainbike with the intention of doing a few miles on road and trail every few days to try and sort my total lack of anything resembling fitness.

And it's bloody snowed/rained/I've been ill nearly every day since! Arse! I did do a 12 mile jaunt on the road on it the day after I got it though so I've had a little go :)

Really looking forward to hopefully getting in slightly better shape over the next months.

Alex - Lycra wearing Bananaman :p

LeperousDust
27-03-2008, 14:43
Its not lycra ;)

Snow and rain shouldn't stop you Mo! Well at least not if you've got a half decent coat, ive got a picture of me and a mate somewhere up the pentlands in total snow cover, was the scariest i've ever ridden, everywhere was just snowy and you had no idea what was good or bad ground underneath slow let alone at some resemblance of speed!

Just got my 1997 GT LTS1 up and running again, I'm thinking about riding into work soon even though I don't have any road tyres and it weighs about 30lbs!
