Last year Jean Michel Jarre re-recorded his first album Oxygene live and it was filmed in 3D for release on DVD (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Oxygene-Live-Your-Living-Room/dp/B00104COF4/ref=pd_bbs_sr_3?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1203809885&sr=8-3). The 3D doesn't interest me but it's absolutely fascinating to see a group of dudes recreating this absolute classic album live. There's no audience, just a bunch of french blokes surrounded by keyboards and generally very old synthesisers with loads of knobs and buttons all over the place.
There's some bonus material on the DVD including a run through of all the instruments used and a lot of the stuff is exactly the same as he used when he originally recorded the album over 30 years ago. It sounds great in 5.1 and being a techy person I find it intriguing to see all the old kit sounding as good now as it ever did. There's a Mellatron and a Theremin and Moogs and other such stuff all over!
If you're a fan of Jean Michel Jarre or electronic music at all then I can thoroughly recommend this. Even if you're not, I can still recommend it. You may think you've never heard any of Oxygene but I can guarantee you will recognise at least some of the tracks as bits of it have been used widely as backing and incidental material over the years.
