Teresa has only gone and booked and paid for me to have a Tattoo this Saturday for my birthday. This girl is just full of surprieses this week.
I've been harking on about a tattoo for as long as I can remember, and I've been poping in and out of our local shop for ages. I have a few idea but I want the kids names more than anything, along with their DoB, in a circle around the picture. I'm thinking of two coy carp becuase 1. I'm Pieces and 2. I used to keep coy.
Then i think I'm too old for this :D Mafia bloke knows the guy who owns the shop (I think he knows everyone :p ) and said he'll go with me :D

I would go with what you feel comfortable with but I'm sure the tattooist will have some good advice - especially if lobster man is with you.
You'll probably end up with some kind of mafia tattoo that will mean you are definitely part of the family.
Either that or 'MUM' across a heart on your arm. :D

too old? what a load of parp - even if you'd had a tattoo at 20, you'd still have it at 40, so what's the difference?! you're never to old to do something you've always wanted to do!
i think it's a lovely idea - that you've waited so long to have one, and now you have a meaningful subject matter for your body art
i would be covered in them if a.) my job would let me b.) i could afford it!
i'll keep getting little ones though, every time i have a reason to! :D
g'luck with it!

I bet she got 'To protect and serve' across her bottom.

I bet he has a tiny lightsaber round the front ;) You so need to film the process. I can't imagine what'll go wrong, but you'll be famous on youtube I'm sure ;)
That's very short notice to find a design you're happy with, I'd be asking if you can reschedule it for a months time so you can sort out a design. I mean, you're going to be wearing it for the rest of your life so it needs to be something you're 100% happy with and four days seems like not very long to make the choice.
And you're not too old. I'll be getting my first later this year.

Can I recommend you dont get the inside of your wrist done Paul!! I'll try and sort a pic... You going to MettleNettle? He did mine, nice bloke! Laughed at me sweating and digging my nails in my palm for the whole five minutes it took though, git!

I'm getting more work done this Friday :o Just some little changes to my wings. Tattooing is strange i wouldn't go as far as Pebs saying its excruciating, everyone feels pain differently. I quite happily sat through most of my 12 hours on my back but there were a few hours I'd rather have been somewhere else, but nothing too awful.
Thing is with your first tattoo you will have nothing else to compare it with, describing the feeling is (i think) impossible to do. I quite enjoy the feeling though. :)
Maybe it's because of where it is? I dunno, I was really quite surprised at how painful it was, I have a fairly hefty pain threshold.
Anyway, little pic :) It's blurry and lumpy and swollen. 3 little stars :)

I like that, clean and simple. It works :)

That lovely! I really like that <3 stars (surprising i know ;))
Different areas can be more painful, can't speak for wrists but my inner ankle stars were VERY much more painful than anything else there was a lot of grimacing that day. I've been thinking about getting one on my inner wrist as i found something quite special and unusual the other day, definitely something I'm going to consider.
Oh, and i don't know what you have been recommended to put on it as people recommend different lotions and potions but i like bepanthen (nappy rash cream) £6 for a massive tube from Boots.
All this talk of tattoos makes me want to get another. Still don't know what though but I do know at some point I want something on the inside of my wrists.
... I was really quite surprised at how painful it was, I have a fairly hefty pain threshold...
i'm a pure WIMP when it comes to tattoos. been pierced to high heaven and back. 10 minutes into a tatoo and im moaning and groaning.
won't stop me mind. trying to get Barry to draw me up another 2-3 hours for my leg just now

Is he at Great Baddow?
I've decided long time ago what I wanted. In fact, the Sat when I called teresa when she was round yours, I had just come out from the shop. :D
It's down to two choices 1. The Coy.. or 2. A full shoulder thingy.. I quite like greys.
I'm having a day off tomorrow so 'll go and make my final choice. :)
Did it hurt.. ?
you could go for a traditional Japanese 1/2 sleeve, done all in black and grey, with 2 koi....
i'll try and find a picture of something similar but im in work so a bit limited.
*edit*
na. can't find anything on google. i know a few mates tattoos that i have in mind but i can't get a hold of them till i get home. if i remember tonight (or someone prods me) will grab them and show you what i mean.
i'd probably want to push the appointment back a bit though as i'd want to see the final design and be sure i was happy with it before i commited to a date.

If you could that would be cool.
completly forgot last night. got access to the site in a kinda roundabout way but cant actually see the pictures. so i think these should be right.
i'm thinking a fairly big piece here, maybe 8-10 hours + i dunno if that's what you have in mind or anything. but even if you're just looking to get something smaller it may give you an idea for something in future.
my friend forbes has a koi, or 2 on his leg, i can't remember exactly, all i do remember is that it's an awesome tattoo. i think this (http://www.altnation.net/gallery/showimage.php?i=86320&original=1&c=member&imageuser=3) is it but if it's wrong i should correct it later tonight.
was thinking that in front on/intertwined with a traditional japanese waves (which seems incredibly difficult to find a picture of)
in fact, something like this (http://www.mcclure411.com/images/koi/3_4.jpg) but properly shaded. the colours in that look very flat.
hmmm his isn't quite how i remembered it.
traditional waves and currents like this one (http://www.bmeink.com/A80210/high/npux-oriental-quarter.jpg) but with the Koi rather than the the roses obviously. would work really well as a quarter sleeve imho.
Blackstar
29-02-2008, 00:49
I've seen something just like that rose one with koi, it looked really good. I can't think where i saw it though.
see it's a fairly traditional design in general. i'd thought i would have found loads of them pretty easy. but those pictures should give a decent enough idea of what i meant.

There is really nothing to be scared of, if you go to a repiable place the whole process is very safe (if a bit sore but as Pebs has shown it is bareable).
The ink goes between layers of the skin and unless they were really going at it or a poor tattooist there is very little bleeding and a low likelihood of hitting anything of importance, getting a piecing is more invasive for this. Tattooing is like a skin graze, as long as you treat it well it will heal up no problem.
Can't say anything about mum's, my mum really dislikes tattoos every time i go i tell her i'm going and every time she says that she wishes i wouldn't. But then she accepts that i'm an adult and can anoint myself with whatever colourful or shiny additions i like. :)
Plus i get to freak her out with them afterwards, always fun :D

not tattoo news - but if all goes to plan, i'm getting my belleh button pierced later! (i.e. if she has some blackline jewelry in, can't be doing with that shiny silver nonsense if it has to stay in for 4-6 months :o)
i presume people on here have had this done already (it's a pretty popular piercing) i'm just bit worried about the aftercare and how long the healing time is likely to be! lets hope this one doesn't get me back in to my addiction - i can't afford it!

Heather had hers done when she was at Uni and its still fine after over 10 years, I've heard of people who effectively 'heal' theirs out i.e they grow out over time. As long as you look after it properly (she used salt water to soak hers daily if I remember rightly) and you go to a good studio then you shouldn't have any problems though although you might not want to lay on your front for a few days after :)

haha, i love the stars Pebs, are they for your babies?
Thats exactly what they're for! You're the first to realise :) It was either stars or paw prints, which also have a very emotional meaning to me. I may still get them elswhere. :D

Vix, the pawprints. A couple of years back Mel and I were going to get a tattoo on our lower backs, she was going to get paw prints. Then she got ill etc so it never happened, hence why I'll get a pawprint or three somewhere one day :)

I go back on the 19th March for the surround and patterns.
Maybe I'm the only one to notice or maybe everyone else is being too polite to say anything but the angles on those stars, especially the biggest one, are all over the place. Were they supposed to be regular?

Huddy, what did you decide on in the end? Looking forward to the pictures :) outlines are the best bit (imo) least owchy.
Yeah where are the pics? :p
I have a friend who got one done- I found out recently (both our mums are Chinese and I think this is where the strictness has come from)
At college it was 'mum... Louisa's going to X club' 'louisa's done this'
Ha ha... now it can be 'Louisa's got a tatoo'. Mum was really cross when I had the top of my ear pierced!
Lol... Will have to see when I am 30 :)

I like the way they are slightly irregular, it gives them more movement & personality which to me ties in with what they represent. I took it as part of the design :)

Makes sense to me.
Tattoos are like children in a way. Their personalities are reflections on themselves and on their parents. They take characteristics from themselves and the parents including imperfections from both.
Pretty much the same can be said of tattoos - they draw their personality from the wearer and from their design, including imperfections from both.
Hope that makes sense :o

What a funny thing to say. If I hold my wrist a certain way they are pretty much spot on, but if my wrist moves, they move. They are a tracing of this which I found after looking for something I liked for months.

I saw a wonderful tattoo recently, it was an arm piece which extended up to the shoulders and it was incredibly subtle, the woman had quite pale skin and the tatto was applied in such away that she had a pattern on her skin in the way a leopard has a pattern on its coat. I was slightly darker than her skin tone and it was like a leopard print but of stars, its really hard to describe but it was both subtle and striking, I'd never seen anything like it before. :/

How big are they? Have you got one of them in profile rather than up close, i can't really work out where you actually got them. They are nice though. They are at different angles which is probably why they look different sizes (the one on the right is more twisted).

go grab a dermal punch. much easier in the long and short term.
I just really really don't like the idea of a dermal punch at all. I've seen some videos of it being done and it looks so much worse than what I've had to put up with so far.
for you're conch it's an awful lot better from anyone i know that's done it. the thing with stretching your conch is that the cartilidge doesn't really have anywhere to go, whereas with your lobes it can move more freely. makes it harder to heal and you get that "preasure" sensation for a while when you're healing it.
with a punch granted it's a more open would you're healing but it should take fairly well comparitivley.
I've always said that if I get too much crap from stretching it then I'll get it punched, but I definitely prefer the idea of stretching over punching. Benefit is, I suppose, that I could get it punched straight to 10mm rather than having to stretch! :/

I went for my return appointment and he was closed. I wasn'tbest pleased as I had taken the afternoon off work. So I went for a quick drink and returned back 15 minutes later - still closed. Checked appointment card - yep that's ok.
So I rang the number on the door which was a mobile - "Hello, It's Paul Hudson, I'm supposed to be having my tattoo done at 3:30"?
"Yes mate not now, my father has dropped down with a heart attack this morning"
How crap did I feel.

You weren't to know, nothing you could really do about it other than wish him the best. I'm sure he will phone you when he is back working. :)
Agreed, unless he answered his phone "Hi my Dad is..." then not a lot you could have done. Doesn't stop you feeling like you've put your foot in it does it?
A few years back I was in the Hot House in c'ford, and noone was behind the bar. One of the other punters pointed at a window through to another room saying "they're in there". So I thought to make it clear I would like to be served, I waved my empty glass at the window to see one of the staff in floods of tears looking my way. I felt =><= that big.
Aww don't worry dude, really wasn't your fault you didn't know.
*big hugs* I'm sure he'll understand.
:( oh dear... Feel awful for the bloke... but another holiday to add to mondays too.

I think the colour has made a big difference.
I have to say it was more painfull than the first session as he had to go over the same spot sometime 3 times and the shading and the two colours where added. There is a hint of yellow but this won't come out until the tattoo has healed.

I know, Teresa is Freckled all over :D
However, these are age freckles most likely due to too much sun exposure!
