View Full Version : Moulin Rouge
Hurl your metro chants if you will, I ****ing love this film. So much life, colours, singing... it's great. A reasonably simple story told in a most outrageous way.
And who'd have thought McGreggor and Kidman could sing so well. Ok, so they paid for the best training, but still, it works so well on screen. The way they drop in well known songs is daft as a brush, but brilliantly clever. I cant think of anything like it.
This has been a public service announcement from the Ministry of Randomness.
I watched it under duress a few years ago when my missus wanted to watch it. Much to my surprise I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I completely agree with you - awesome movie. I didn't think I'd like it at all tbh but it's very cool
I love "Your Song" :embarassed:
I love to sing it :D The whole soundtrack is brilliant. El Tango de Roxanne in particular really is impressive.

/makes note to listen to Lady Marmalade when getting ready too :D
Oh, their 'Rhythm of the Night' cover is spot on for that sort of thing. And 'Because We Can' :D

Damnit!
I'm going to have to unpack more now to find and watch it! :p
My dance school did a show based around this film that included the whole soundtrack, and what a show it was :)
Awesome :)
Just coming to the end of it now. Satine's death really is well shot, and McGreggor is top draw. It's god damn heartbreaking.
A great irony that a film with so much life ultimately ends in death.
I was doing a few bits for the dance/drama college a couple of years back and queried where a particular interpretation of a song came from. The teacher turned and stared at me and queried if I'd ever seen Moulin Rouge, which I hadn't. She then set me homework to watch it :) Out of curiosity rather than a sense of need I ambled into the college library and noticed they'd got a copy for student research purposes, so I borrowed that over night and was stunned by it. Its a fantastic film :)
I've still not seen it although parents have it on DVD.
I love the music I've heard from it though :)

I didn't really know what to expect when I saw it but I was blown away by the music. The mixes and references were brilliantly done. It does seem like a girly film, but I loved it for the music.

Definitely a superb film, it has everything, love, singing, action, tragedy, horror and an elephant :D
Absolutely hated it, would have had more fun being run over by a steamroller :/

The film had so many great touches, keep thinking of them after watching it.
Think I spent the last hour either with tears in my eyes or trying not to :embarassed:

Gerroff me you metro you !
It's a good song! Bah, I'm wasted on you, I'll be in my trailer!
Suddenly the world seems such a perfect place...Suddenly it moves with such a perfect grace...Suddenly my life doesn't seem such a waste...
It all revolves around you...
See, I'll need a lady to sing the next part with. Doesnt sound right on my own :p
Isn't that part sung by him though? :p
Ah wait I know the bit I think :D
And there's no mountain too high...No river too wide...
Sing out this song and I'll be theeeerrrreee by your siiiide!
Bah, I wanna go singing :(
Storm clouds may gather...And stars may collide...But I love you, I love you...Until the end of time, Until the end of time...
Me too. It'd rock as a duet

Last time I was in NYC I went to the Broadway production of Mamma Mia!, so I'd imagine it's the same sort of thing. :)

There's a bit less Abba! :p
I really like Chicago too - would love to see what performed! :D
I would expect there to be very little Abba. :p
There's some Nirvana, though :D

Saw that in London. Was pretty awesome... thought it was hard not to perve at the women.... I was right on the front row :embarassed:
Me too. I have to say I prefer Chicago to Moulin Rouge if I'm honest....
It'd probably make a better musical, but Moulin Rouge is a lot more special. There's little like it.

He had it coming

He only had himself to blame

If you'd have seen it

I have both Chicago and Moulin Rouge out to watch
How strange! I was watching Moulin Rouge today! As i love it so much i've found a way to integrate it into my Year 10's GCSE coursework - yah! Means i get to watch bits of it up to xmas now!
I also really like Chicago - but i've only seen the first half - six times! It was a set video when i was doing some supply before schools broke up and i only got as far as Renee being the puppet on his lap - but i'm desp to see the end! Need to find a copy! :)
It was cheap in the HMV sale last time I looked.

And yet we both reached for the gun
Oh yes, oh yes, oh yes we both
Oh yes we both
Oh yes, we both reached for
The gun, the gun, the gun, the gun
Oh yes, we both reached for the gun
For the gun.

Are you sorry?

I agree. I like some musicals & Chicago is one of the better ones but Moulin Rouge is an amazing & unique film- one of my favourites ever. Beautiful characters, story, visuals and sound.
Are there any fans of Baz Luhrman's 'Romeo & Juliet'? This also has some amazing visuals (i.e. the arch on the beach), great use of songs, clever attention to detail & a heartbreakingly romantic story.

I love it. The modernisation of the visuals while keeping the dialogue 'olde school' rocks my sock.

Horaah !! ... Join me in my anti-moulin-rouge regiment !
Nah its a good film :) I love musicals, will have to dig out the soundtrack.
I saw Chicago at the west end too and it pees all over the film (au naturellement) I saw it with Denise Van Outen in it and was shocked at how good she was.
Next musical I wanna book for is Dirty Dancing, but I keep hearing rumours it is booked up :\
I met they do Moulin Rouge on stage next (if they haven't already?!)
