View Full Version : Pratchett
I know there are quite a few Pratchett fans on here (and some soon to be introduced to Pratchett) so I was wondering what people thought of this:

I know Hogfather is the least fave of Mic's and I have to admit I've only read it the once.
David Jason as Albert could be good and the actor doing the voice of DEATH could work out pretty well too.
If I've read it correctly, its going to be 2 x 2hr "films" which should (hopefully) mean its not cut to pieces.
A very strange choice for it, I would have chosen loads of the others before that one. How well will it turn out? Hmmmm remains to be seen, I will view it very sceptially until clips of it start coming out. It will either be excellent or very disappointing I feel I can't imagine it being much inbetween. It's going to be hard to please us fans who have been reading for decades and have a perfect picture in our heads of how it should be.
*fingers crossed*

There's already been the animated versions of Soul Music and Wyrd Sisters that were very good.
Especially Christopher Lee as DEATH. ;)
Hmmmm... Hogfather though...
I'd prefer some of the Guards series tbh. It's pretty obvious what release time they are aiming for though.

Time to bump this....
It's looking shockingly good. Having watched the making of's and the Day 1 and 2 of the 12 days of Hogswatch.
I'm now looking forward to this.
The person playing Susan Death looks a bit of a babe too with the white and black hair. ;)
Linky to making of and 12 Days of Hogwatch (http://link.brightcove.com/services/player/bcpid291708786)
Will try to get some DivX versions uploaded somewhere soon as I HATE flashvideo.

the clips look amazing, i didn't even know they were making this
it should be excellent :)
Not a fan of the books personally. I've tried to read loads of them and just not managed to get into them.
This looks like it might be good though, and I fully intend to watch it if I get chance :)
Edit: For some reason that's just reminded me, I've not chatted to Rhianna for ages. My ex has her on his msn list because she was living with a good friend of his a few years ago. She's a nice lass, wish I'd chatted to her more.

Snap, read a couple of the Discworld books but thought they were a bit meh.

The Making of was on last night - was just an extended version of whats on the website.
Still looks pretty good though.
I'm now officially hopeful that this will be alright rather than a pile of poo.

If you can get in - www.uknova.com are a good source of UK TV shows.
You have to register - and they have capped the number of registrations and it seems to be regularly full.

Even I'm watching, and I can't say I'm a particular follower of this genre. :)

I'm enjoying it. Seems fairly accurate to the book.
Simon/~Flibster
....and I don't have sky :(
Having just finished reading the book I have to say its going pretty well so far, Mic didn't seem too impressed but then its the only pratchett book that hes read once and never touched again

Nobby is WRONG! *too human...*
Albert is WRONG! *too fat...*
Susan is superb though. She's nailed the part.
Shame about the 10 minute whats happening next....wow... Good job we didn't want to watch tomorrows episode.

Quite. I commanded we turn the trailer off halfway through because it was practically a summary of the entire programme.
Death is great - when the little girl told him she'd seen his pig peeing...
'Good'. :D
REMINDER!!!!
8pm - part 2 :D
Ratties. Forgot. Sky Multi start (hopefully) to the rescue.
Ratties.
All accounted for - all 3 were very disappointed that they're not famous and hope they do another book sometime soon :)
Loved the cameo by Pratchett at the end :)

You've only missed 45 minutes - Sky Multistart. ;)
Either that, or wait until NYE. ;)
Wasn't too bad shame about Nobby and the fact that the Tower of Art was MUCH too tall when you see Ankh-Morpork from the air.

I thought that! It's about as tall as the city is wide.. that ain't right in the slightest, in my mind's eye.
Obviously Terry Pratchett sees it that way, it seems .
I see Nobby as much shorter, with big ears, but they were fairly close I think. There's only so much you can do without using a midget/CGI and I don't think either of those would have worked. In my mind's eye he's just really really short, skinny, lumpy and with big ears, but still looks like a person.

watched, not great a fan of pratchett personally, but really liked the hogfather. maybe i should start reading his books again.
anyone recommend a good pratchett starter book ?
I'd say something like Guards, Guards or Feet of Clay personally, but I do particularly like the guards. Personal taste really as there's a few Pratchett books I'm not overly keen on but I love the guards ones and some of the wizard ones.
If people missed it, its being repeated 25th and 26th at 1pm on sky 1 :)
I've got it on Sky+ and will put it on DVD for any that wants it.
