Some things really get blown out of all proportion, a woman I work with told me this story yesterday…

Her son, who is about 6, goes to primary school. The other day, a girl in his class bought a steak knife to school in her bag. She obviously wasn’t aware of the consequences, and didn’t use it for anything. It was swiftly confiscated, a quick phone call to her parents, bit of paperwork, job done. Another child went home and told his parents about it, a couple of days later, the story was on the front page of the local paper :/ A parent had gone ballistic thinking this girl had tried to stab other classmates, and obviously didn’t get all the facts. Why go to a bloody newspaper? You go to the school to sort the problem first, hey ho *shrugs*

Another, this was when I was at primary school. I came back from lunch at my mama’s house, when someone ran up to me and said, “Have you heard about Lindsey? She’s died!!!!” Well I was shocked to say the least, but turns out she had simply run towards a window, couldn’t stop herself, and put her hand through it. A slight cut, if that :/ (yes I am aware I've done something *that* stupid before, please don’t bother pointing that out ;))

Anyone got a Chinese Whisper story to share?

My Dad went into the back of a bus with his car many years ago whilst fiddling with the cassette player. Luckily, it was right outside the hospital so he nipped in for a quick check up and apart from a little soreness from the seat belt, he was fine.

Someone told my sister three hours later that she had it on good authority that he had smashed both his legs really badly and might never walk again. Dad had a bit of a chortle to himself as he prepared to go tramping over hills on a trout fishing trip.

I have always told people that my dad caused an avalanche whilst skiing. The truth is that he was skiing about 200 feet above the avalanche and didn't know about it till he was told at the bottom of the slope. It's pretty good for winding him up really.

I can't think of any personal ones, but the Simpsons springs to mind.

Bart: Now for Operation Strike-Make-Go-Longer. [To a teacher.] You know, I heard Skinner say the teachers will crack any minute. [The teachers whisper this forward through the line.]
Hippie Teacher: [to Edna] Skinner said the teachers will crack any minute purple monkey dishwasher!
Edna: Well! We'll show him, especially for that "purple monkey dishwasher" remark!
