No

Not a lot of help there I'm afraid :p

I was thinking that...

Possibly add in questions about if you got a window cleaner:

How much would you expect to pay?

What kind of service would you expect?

How often would you want your windows cleaned (monthly/as and when/etc)?

If you are a fit, lonely lass would you expect extras?

Or summat like that ;)

Want one

Would expect (or at least prefer) plastics/frames/doors to be done too

No idea what the going rate is

I know it isn't a huge amount of help to you Malc but I've only started thinking about hiring one recently - if I start getting quotes, ideas of rates, length of time etc I'll let you know

Do you have one ? Yes

How Often ? See below

How much does he Charge ? Been told £8

How Big is your House ? Three storey semi

How long does he spend on them ? Not sure yet

Does he include the Plastics in the price ? (Frames/Plaggy Door etc) Didnt say

Why did you pick this Window cleaner or Did he pick you ? He picked us, knocked on the door early Saturday morning :p

Not much help either I am afraid, £8 seems reasonable for three floors, and we dont have a conservatory. I wont have any idea how long it takes because we wont ever be in when he comes round :)

Do you have one ?
FNAR? Er, no, but I did before he scarpered.

How Often ?
Monthly (ish).

How much does he Charge ?
Tenner IIRC.

How Big is your House ?
8 upstairs windows, 1 downstairs door. Not particularly big but lots of ladder work.

How long does he spend on them ?
Didn't pay much attention (when I was actually in), but half an hour, maybe less.

Does he include the Plastics in the price ? (Frames/Plaggy Door etc)
No - £5 extra. :/

Why did you pick this Window cleaner or Did he pick you ?
Wishful thinking round here I'm afraid. Most places I know have one window cleaner or none. :dunno:

Sounds Promising to me. It does seem that people want a regular Window cleaner but find it hard to find one.
I think the job will suit me, I'll be my own boss, Be able to take Frank out with me in the jeep & will be able to have Mucho Banter with the Customers (translate that as Ladys:evil:)
It is also affordable to set up with my meagre income.

I'm thinking of building a trailer for my mountain bike, One of those old fashioned ones for ladders. Will look cool & Old fashioned & i like old fashioned. Will start from my house & work out. Once i hit my bike limit I can bring the jeep out :)
Don't know yet it's all in the thinking stage

Don't think I'm going to be much help, but here we go :)

Do you have one ? Yes.

How Often ? Not sure. Approx monthly or bi-monthly.

How much does he Charge ? Don't know, he's contracted to the flat management company, and does all the windows for the whole block.

How Big is your House ? I have 3 windows, there's 27 flats, some have 4 windows.

How long does he spend on them ? Hardly any time at all, especially above ground level, he uses a long broom, no ladder. Can't see how that can get them clean...

Does he include the Plastics in the price ? (Frames/Plaggy Door etc). Can't do as they're never cleaned.

Why did you pick this Window cleaner or Did he pick you ? Before I moved in. A few have moaned, but not enough to cause a rethink.

Might be an idea to see if there's many (low) blocks of flats about. They usually have the management company's name and number on them, and most leases stipulate regular window cleaning as a requirement. Regular money (although probably less than individual properties for the window count).

Do you have one ? Yep

How Often ? i think its every 6 weeks but i've not seen him in a while

How much does he Charge ? i think its about £10

How Big is your House ? fairly large 2 bay windows, conservatory, 3 other medium sized windows, i don't know if he does the upstairs ones as they are hard to reach

How long does he spend on them ? about 30 mins - an hour

Does he include the Plastics in the price ? (Frames/Plaggy Door etc) i think he wipes the conservatory plastic for free

Why did you pick this Window cleaner or Did he pick you ?
As far as i know he picked us, we've had the same one since we moved here 20 years ago

Justsomebloke

So is it fair to say then that people with Awkward to reach windows would rather they were not done to avoid damage to property ?
Or would you expect every window done regardles & expect him to have the equipment/skill to reach them all Without damaging anything.

Blackstar

Spoken to mum she says that it is too hard to get to and would cause damage to the house, the windows we have upstairs swing right round so can be cleaned from inside anyway.

10-03-2008, 18:07
Don't have one. We have these funky magnetic thingies that allow you to clean/squeegie the window on the inside/outside at the same time, so you don't have to climb ladders and things. They're good enough for me!! :)

Justsomebloke
10-03-2008, 18:28
Yep I know about the insurance & that is definately needed but still I just wondered whether people would expect you to do them or prefer you to leave them, You know what people are like with there castles :p
With it being arranged with teh dole there will be an advisor & lots of meetings chats etc, Everything will have to be Spot on to the letter or they won't authorise it.
I must say it all seems a bit weird to me as i having been asking for this for years & i mean Years.
The way i see it is i can get out sort a round out & build it up until the weekly/monthly wage exceeds what i get now then just sign off & switch over, they are saying i can do this for up to 6 months, I'd say 3 months is a fair target. Does this mean if i earning a fair whack & putting it in the bank, Obviously not spending it because i can't withdraw any unless it's for equipment, expences that i can then build up a big fund before the 6 months is up
Am just thinking out loud here.
I'm thinking head down arse up get a decent round sorted in 3 months then spend 2 months banking money for the switch over. I'll have to find out how much Insurance is & eactly how much ladders etc cost. Then anything else that pops up.

I am also getting this dude up the job centre to get me the CSIA () cards that one needs these days. All sorts of cards you need before you can even get on some sites. I am going to milked every card possible out of them so in the end it will be Impossible for me to not get a job, That'll learn'em ;D
I feel like i am taking the mick but obviously i am not & it's what they want anyway. Give it 6 months & I'll have my window cleaning round, be doing PC repairs upgrades here & there from home, will put cards out when i window clean ;) & will be armed with the proper cards/certs i need if All goes tits up & i have to go on a site or summit.

That is the plan anyways & i can refer back here as & when i need to kick myself in the sacks & cry about how kin dire my life/job oppurtunitys are ;D

Blimey that's a bit Poosh :p
No ladders is a right bonus though as i could be speedy Gonzales off the floor & not have to swing hoofing big ladders about the place, Means less chance of damage more houses can be done cheaper prices & something over the local window cleaners.
Woohoooo this posting larks works dunnit ;D

I'm thinking this No Ladder pole work is an Edge over the competition. Give it the old this is the Future Love routine & Wahaaay :D
Drop in the No chance of damage to your guttering/house/extension like with those Dodgey ladder dudes & ease my way onto the window cleaning circuit of Hinckley ;D
May have to fight off a few local cleaners but i will be tooled up with my 18ft extension pole so they will be dealt with Luke Skywalker style
Be funny if we have a Window cleaning war & it kicks off enough to get on Local news. I'll paint my pole a Lumi colour & make sound effect noises when they interview me ;D

Or it will come to Nowt & I'll FAIL & Die unemployed.

Sorry, I wouldn't even think of having someone come clean my windows for me. They'd waste more in petrol getting here than they'd actually make doing the work.

No, we used to and he charged about £12. He went into carpet cleaning and I didn't like the new bloke that took over so now the windows stay dirty :D

Do you have one ?
No but my Ma and Pa had one before they moved... so I will answer from their perspective!

How Often ?
Once every month/2 months :)

How much does he Charge ?
£20

How Big is your House ?
Huge it was.
Downstairs: 2 patio windows (he'd do outside AND inside for us), Front door with HUGE window next to it, back door, 3 sets of "large windows" (three-four windows in each set) and 2 single ones.

Upstairs: A Patio door (balcony - once again he'd do inside and out), three sets of "large windows", two single windows.

How long does he spend on them ?
About 30 minutes... he was quick but good. And then he'd have a cuppa and chat for about an hour :D

Does he include the Plastics in the price ? (Frames/Plaggy Door etc)
All wooden framing so no...

Why did you pick this Window cleaner or Did he pick you ?
He had worked our road when we first moved there (or at least a couple of the houses). Ma saw him, collared him and bobs-your-uncle, he became our window cleaner :)

Rob. Nice man, 3 kiddies and a superb wife! *wonder if he knows Ma and Pa have moved....* He would normally just come and do them and leave a note in the door if we weren't in. We'd say "see you in a month" and he'd be back in roughly a month! :) Good man!

Why do you ask dear maclyo!?

Sounds the same setup as ours uses, but as I think I said, I can't see how they can see if the window is actually clean from that sort of distance?
