*dances for joy*

No silly ad breaks in the most annoying moments, and also webcasting too :)

I'm really looking forward to this and I hope the BBC make a decent job of it, I'm quite sure they will :)

Just echoing the previous comments. :D

Hope Brundle stays with the coverage and reports for the BBC. Anyone else not want James Allen to stay on?

Fantastic!

All we can ask for now is for them to stop the cock!
But keep Martin though. Also - give Murray some regular work - he doesn't want to commentate anymore, but something liek the Murry meets segments would be cool.

Simon/~FlibsterYup. Yuppity yup yup. Brundlers is cool and MUST stay on.

As I said somewhere else (don't know where, 3 forums I've been on about this now! :) getting Murray back to do some kind of interviews in the pitlane to be shown before the race. Perhaps getting him to interview the press officers or mechanics etc, the unsung heroes behind F1. I'm sure someone could interview them but only Murray would make it fun to be interviewed. ;D

Just as long as they do it properly.

I can't help but worry seeing as ITV ditched it rather than got outbid on it (why would they ditch it? piss poor ratings?) that the BBC have snapped it up for the sake of having it, rather than really wanting it and will sideline it compared to football and rugby, give it some piss poor excuse for coverage and ruin it.

I've heard that ITV's contract was 5 years long but had an option to end the deal after 3 years. Can't see the ratings having been a problem, the Lewis effect should be helping them. It seems ITV just don't have the time to look after F1.

And it seems Bernie went to the BBC and offered it to them, wonder if that means they will be paying less for F1 than Bernie would normally want?

If there was money to be had in it, ITV wouldn't have ended the contract though, the fact they have implies the revenue isn't flowing as well as predicted, the advertising isn't supporting the costs etc.

It would seem silly of ITV to dump F1 if it was still making them money considering they're a commercially funded broadcaster. The BBC can show any old crap regardless of ratings and still get the money, ITV can't.

Given what Bernie is saying in that report, it would suggest that its more that ITV aren't interested in pursuing other potential revenue streams for it either, just keep on doing the TV thing, whereas he's wanting other options considered. Under those circumstances I'm sure he just wouldn't look at doing anything with ITV. He could well have made it clear to his contacts at ITV what he'd like to see, that info get to the production team and them say amongst themselves "No.. too much hassle, it'd wipe out profits", then decide not to renew. The BBC has a much more technically capable setup, and better infrastructures in place (plus stuff already in place to take serious advantage of BT's 21CN network), for them to offer streaming of F1 stuff, for example, would be much less of a hassle or cost. They might well be able to provide the whole thing at much less cost that ITV ever could.

We were debating about this on a geeks mailing list I'm on. We reckon what they ought to do is say "No rules at all, except that your car must be able to complete the race on an amount of fuel decided on the day, between xx gallons and xx gallons".
Giving the car mfgs free reign could result in some very interesting cars, use of ground effect etc.etc. :)
