Yester-easter-sun-of-day we were tootling down to Cornwall to see Pickys Parents for a nomtastic lunch.

Now normally on journeys I tend to sing most of the way or just chat about stuff.

However... it wasn't so yesterday.

After about half an hour in the car..

Picky: "You're quiet"

Me: "Eh?"
My Brain: "Uh nuh. You've spent a whole 30mins thinking about this. How silly will it sound if you tell him what you're thinking. Don't tell him what you're thinking, he'll just call you dumb."
Me: "Oh yeh. I am a bit I guess. Just thinking."

Picky: "Yeh? What about"

Me: "Not a lot"

Picky: "Yeh?" *smiles in a "You're silly" way*

Me: *blank look*
My Brain: "Oh just tell him. He might think you're upset or something if you don't tell him."
Me: "Ok. Well..... My Brains squishy. It's just all goo and squishyness and yet... I can think with it thoughts like this. I didn't want to tell you cos I thought you'd think I was dumb for sitting there thinking about my brain being squishy."

Picky: "Hahaha, you idiot!"

Me: "SEE!"
My Brain: *sigh* "No one understands us."

But seriously... think about it people... your brain is just the mush and gooey bits all held together in a lump. And yet you can think thoughts with it and things.

Isn't that just slightly weird? I was a bit overwhelmed by it tbh... well so overwhelmed it rendered me silent for half an hour (rare this unless I'm sleeping) Made my brain ache when thinking about it cos I was thinking about my squishy brain thinking and how it could think what I was thinking... yet I was thinking.

See. Brain hurts now.

Picky thinks I'm silly for this. So I wanted to see whether there was anyone else who thinks it's all a bit crazy - squishy brains and all. Kinda magical it all works isn't it?

It's incredible. I was at a museum (wish I could remember which one it was) and there was a human brain on display. A real one, with small bits sliced off where tests had been done on it after death and I stood there for ages just looking at it, absolutely amazed by this grey blob in front of me.

And another thing, you were thinking about brains? Isn't that a sign of zombieness?

omg omg omg - have you ever seen an MR scan of a brain - its AMAZING!
the department i work in is introducing planning using CT / MRI fusions, and it's incredible the detail you can see! it's more than a lump of mush - i promise!

i like my intestines, they're just so clever, they don't have all the thinky bits that the brain does, but they know just what to do with the foods. i am also a fan of the spine - the way the bones fit together is just sooooo neat - it's like a long, fancy 3d jigsaw :D

I get a bit weird when I think about the insides of us.

It really freaks me out to think that everyone's got a skull inside their head... I look like that under the pink stuff on the outside.

AAAAAARGH I DON'T LIKE IT I DON'T WANT TO BE A SKELETON I WANT TO BE A PERSON

I know exactly what you mean Pheebs :D
I've had similar thoughts. Or I've had sudden thoughts of how amazing it is that by random chance you're born to soandso family and in soandso country. Which probably makes no sense written down but basically, just being in mild awe at everything :p

I get a bit weird sometimes looking at my hands. It never ceases to amaze me that I can move something so powerful as my hands and my fingers just by a thought, in such a level of precision. These things that can be used to create or destroy, bring pleasure or pain, or even as they are right now, communicate.

Haha! I am not mad :D

Haly - I think exactly the same about being who I am and where! I sometimes get a little freaked when I am driving thinking about the millions of peoples lives I am driving past and that none of them know I exist nor I them... and yet... they're so close and have their own families and networks and specialties and stories that would make you laugh! Kinda wish I had the time and brain capacity to meet everyone and hear their story and remember them :) It's kinda sad so many people just live and die with few people knowing and appreciating who they are.

I also get scared when I star gaze as I have a sudden feeling of helplessness. I used to lie on the beach and star gaze and suddenly think "Oh jesus, if the world lost gravity I would have nothing to hold onto" and start feeling wibbly in the legs.

The other night made me lol though - I looked at the sky and thought "Wooaaah... I'm soooo tiiiiinnny... and here I am thinking "I'm slightly podgier than normal, I should lose some weight" and there's the WHOLE UNIVERSE just above me... just there *waves hands about*...it's huuuge............ I don't need to lose weight. I'm tiny."

It's therefore the whole entire universe's fault if I put on more weight :p ;D

Me too - i cried for a week when i realised i was a skeleton inside I was so scared (had just seen Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger or something similar where all the skellingtons have a big fight). I think it's pretty cool now.

Pheebs - never, ever think about what your feet are doing when you run up/down stairs. I have fallen over so many times doing just that ;D

I did something similar when driving to work one day. Just looked down at my feet when I was changing gear and thinking "How weird, I don't think about this I just do it." Then I realised that I was looking at my feet instead of the road :o

;D;D;D I don't think I've ever done something like that, though I do recall jumping when I was at the top of the stairs when I was 3 or 4 or something, in the full belief that I was able to fly. Gravity soon disabused me of that notion, as did most of the stairs on the way down.

Hehe, you're talking about your brain the third person. "My brain..." That's the brain saying that itself, to itself. You are your brain. :D

The human brain is amazing though, so complicated, a constant ballet of neural and chemical equations and reactions.

Hehe, you're talking about your brain the third person. "My brain..." That's the brain saying that itself, to itself. You are your brain. :D

But but... In my head my brain and me are different! We tend to disagree on a lot of things. Like whether I should eat a chocolate brownie. "NOOOOOOOOoo" my brain will say but I will put the brownie in my mouth and eat it anyway.

Also I say things which I haven't thought so I am doing stuff without the brain! Like silly things I get wrong!

That makes me and the brain separate :)

Oh dear God. Upon reading that I sound like a complete schizo! I'm not I can assure you!

Chocolate, Coca Cola, Coffee, pure sugar etc. ;D:D
