View Full Version : Falafel!! (V)
Pronounced "fal-off-ul"
OMG this is GORGEOUS! I made it for my mate last Monday because I invited a few friends around for tea. I was cooking lasagne, but she's a veggie so I wanted to cook her something nice. I tried a bit of it and it's just soooo nice that I made it tonight and thought I'd share the recipe. It's mostly store cupboard ingredients too, so it's something you can make in one of those "argh, haven't done the shopping" moments :) Yum++++++

I see something very houmous-esque appearing... should be good :D

excellent!
we usually make these into tiny (1cm) balls, so they fry off nice and crispy and fit well into an open pitta, big falafel burgers sound yummy though - and i'll definitely be trying your recipe out kate!
No farfalle in here moddum... and I can assure you that this tastes MUCH better :D
I love falafel wrapped in a flat bread with houmous and salad.
HAW HAW HAW
:p
I wasn't taking the piss :/
Now there's a good reason to buy a food processor, looks super sweet.
Might have to serve it with a steak or something though, still can't bring myself to eat a solely vegetarian meal :D

Y'see if I go to cook a meal and it turns out to be veggie then I'm fine with that - but I think cooking this I know I would be going out of my way to make a veggie meal and that just doesn't sit right with me :p
Much the same, but looking at that it does look very tasty and I think I could bring myself to do it this once.
If it doesn't work, I'll consider blending some cooked steak in with the chick peas. Ah yeah.

I'm sorry, I was terribly drunk at the time. I've absolutely NO idea what I thought you'd said :o
And you two above. Get over it. :p Some veggie food is gorgeous. You don't need to have meat to make a cracking meal. I can see what you're saying about going out of your way to make something veggie but this isn't making it because it's veggie, it's making it because it's absolutely delicious. It's also incredibly filling, so you wouldn't want steak to go with it... trust me! :p I'm willing to bet that if I hadn't put (V) in the title, you wouldn't be having that conversation.
And no, I'm not a veggie either! :)

They look scrummy !!
Might have a go of them this week :)

:D
What do they taste like? If they taste like houmous at all, i'm interested, because I love it. :p
Hmmm, hard to describe. There is a houmous vibe in there obviously because of the chickpeas and the garlic, but the onion, herbs and spices give it more depth. I also love houmous so I definitely think you'll like them.
Cheap to make too! :D
I'm going to make this some time this week I reckon. Always reminds me of a stand-up comic I saw at Glastonbury (I know his face but can't think of his name, and he was on just before Stewart Lee) who, as a parting thought just said 'Watch out for the brown falafels'. :D
I made some tonight. Made them into wee flat patties and cooked them on the George Forman grill. Came out pretty good though not quite as pretty as Kates :)
EDIT: I had to wait until after eating to post a pic as it was too yummy!

yes, that's right - you will be!
FALOFL!It's possibly one of my favourite food words in the world! You have to say it in an American accent though or it doesn't work.
Glad you enjoyed, Lozza :D
I'm making this tonight!
Picky being a MAN is having a meat burger and a falalalaflelflf... and I am just having the falalalfalel and salad.
Flalalallahalah. Nom
If the restaurant in Cyprus hadn't shut down I'd have taken you to the best Lebanese restaurant in the world - where they made the best melt in the mouth falafels. Arabic/middle eastern cooking is special. I love making falafels they look food Kate - you should have made a tahini sauce with it!
They were LUSH!
Think I put too much cumin in (I guestimated) and I also cooked them under the grill for a healthier option so they needed a sauce of sorts as were a tad dry... but YURMY! I want them again tonight!
Loved them. Really did! Fankoo! :D
I have been farting something chronic today.
*points blame*
But it was worth it :D
Chickpeas'll do that to you.
Nom nom nom!!
This is the sound of me eating these today for my lunch :) I made them Tuesday night and have had them yesterday and today for lunch in a pitta bread* with salad leaves. Yummy! Thanks Kate x
* Food Doctor multiseed brown pittas which I highly recommend.
you should have made a tahini sauce with it!
I have a jar of tahini in the fridge - what would I put with it to make a sauce?
Ooooh, great minds. I'm making these tonight :) Glad you like them. Gorgeous aren't they :D
Tahini sauce (according to random google result)
1/2 cup tahini (sesame seed paste)
3 gloves garlic, crushed
1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
2 tablespoons olive oil
1/4 cup lemon juice
1 teaspoon parsley, finely chopped (optional)

I love falafels with Tahini or chilli sauce. Lovely jubbly. If anybody's near Liverpool then try them at Kimo's. 6/£1 with sauce. Can't go wrong :)

Is it closed down now then? Booo! :(
