LOL, sad isn't it, a whole bunch of nerds who have never got near a woman since the day they were born holding forth on the subject of beauty and who they would and wouldn't have sex with. Most of them would blow their load if Grotbags from Emus Pink Windmill show showed them her stocking tops.
Theres absolutly nothing wrong with plus sized models, she's a beautiful woman, beauty isn't all about looking the best in a bikini, even the Miss England contest isn't ONLY about looking good in a bikini!
And by all means use the full URL, if someone tracks it back here then so be it, they might learn that their attitudes are unacceptable in the 'real' world.

what did you honestly expect? as MB said a bunch of blokes who think Nuts and Zoo are how all women act and look, of course they were going to react like they have.
From OCUK? Thats all I ever expect Leo, but thats not my point :(
Matt is spot on. I haven't read beyond the first page and I don't think I need to. I suspect it'll be mostly teenagers who don't have the first clue about relationships or the real world. When they've grown up they might realise that maybe stick figures really aren't everything they thought they were.
And this is from someone who has never been in a serious relationship, or a relationship at all for that matter (too shy tbh). It really isn't that hard to figure out what is and is not important.

I don't want to comment on the girl but what i can comment on is the amount of different types/sizes/shape/background type of women i have Actually found attractive.
In my own experience being good looking has absolutely Nothing to do with being Sexy. I've known Gorgeous women who were not sexy at all where other women who don't conform to the tabloid BS photoshopped stereotype babes shape which literally rocked me in my boxers.
Impossible to tell whether a women is sexy though until you meet her or at least speak to her via MSN  + ;D

That said a lot of confidence issues aren't introduced by sad teenagers who masterbate over anerexic models, who takes them seriously anyway?
As I have mentioned before the real poison comes from the media and respected figures who are happy to put poison articles about how Charlotte Church has become a heiffer next to advert for surgical weightloss procedures and other articles about how Posh is disgustingly thin. Totall mind **** for women to be honest but who supports these things by buying them? If someone isn't at a weight which makes them ill and is happy with themselves then they should be allowed to be happy not constantly harrassed to lose weight or gain it or dye their hair or ...... oh dear I'm ranting again :(

Of course it isn't. The attitudes expressed on OcUK are just a representation of a bigger problem. As you rightly say the results of that are very evident in society.
I admit that given my (lack of) experience here I'm probably missing the whole point, but given past explosions of childish 'hit it' threads I suspect I probably got the gist.

Ok, let me put it this way. I am sorry to have to use Paula as an example here, if I step over the line, then mods feel free to delete this.
Martin, Paula is an incredibly sexy gorgeous woman, if when you were going out with her, what would you say if someone said she was fat and minging? If to someone else, she wasnt the most attractive woman in the world, would that matter to you? What would YOU say to them?
Paula tried to defend this woman in the original thread, but its always a case of "Typical woman, jumping in to defend her sisterhood blah blah blah"
Now leave me alone, Ive got loads of work to do, and you lot are distracting me ;D

I know I would ..... I always fantasised about getting thrashed off Grotbags and her evil wand.
Anyway, back to the debate.
You started the thread! :p
I dont really think its fair to use Paula as an example, but if you insist then I would have stressed that my opinion was held by me and that someone elses opinion was respected but I disagreed. It wouldn't have swayed my opinion.
As it happens, most people that met Paula thought she was hawt but not everybody did. Its to be expected.
I really don't understand why other people's opinions on something thats clearly as subjective as this get people so riled. I could brand the woman that sparked all this off as a fat, minging heffa. It would be my opinion and you could disagree if you liked but so what?
I really dont find Asian women attractive (by and large). Is this any different to me not liking obese women (no relation to the Miss England hopeful, just throwing it in there) or stick-thin women?
Is my opinion more relevant because I can express it properly rather than branding her a minger? Is that elitist on your part for disregarding the opinions of the less educated? See what I mean? ;)
You started the thread! :p
But now I am off lunch ;D

Roberta, if I gave you £20, would you paint yourself green and dress up as Grotbags for me ?
Del Lardo

Personally I don't find her at all attractive but that's because I simply do not find larger women attractive. I also don't find stick thin women attractive, I like curves. I realise that there are a lot of men out there who like larger women (one of my mates won't go out with a woman unless she is size 16+) and that's what makes humans great. Regardless of your size, colour & looks there will be someone out there who will want to do naughty things with you.
Callling someone a "fat pig" is simply never acceptable whether they are a man or a woman. OcUK has a high proportion of male members but I bet if Mr UK has a beer belly and was posted up on a forum with a high proportion of female members a lot of the comments would be the same but with the gender roles reversed.

Lol, good job I took my comment off OcUK then. You lot would have had something great to have a go at me about :o :D
I just summed up my opinion over there with this post:
I think the media has a lot to answer for. Combatting the size-zero culture with borderline-obese images isnt the way forward though (not talking about the OP here, just the general reaction).
Has anyone seen that ad on the TV for one of those plus-size catalogues? Most of the women featured in that advert are "larger than average" and are absolutely stunning. There was a Dove advert on a while back which also had some larger-than-average ladies, the majority of which were really attractive "despite" their size.
Attractiveness cannot be measured by dress size or scales. In my opinion, the woman in the OP isnt attractive, but it has little to do with her size.
Thats what I think.
I think if people used a bit of tact there wouldn't be a problem. Iif people had simply said that they don't find her attractive because they prefer a slimmer figure then it might not have been so bad. To run around saying she's a fat minger is a bit harsh. I don't see her as fat. She's obviously a fuller figure than your average size 0 or nuts mag girlie but not "fat".
As for Asians... *giggidy* ;)
Ok, lets agree to disagree.
Fair enough, some people think she is minging. Some would hit it etc. But I think its great she has so much confidence to do this, even though there will be some obvious backlash.
She is an inspiration to womenkind everywhere. As is Gok Wan ;D

You see this wasn't really what annoyed me personally, of course its fine that people don't find her attractive or anyone else for that matter, the point is the excesive language which is used to describe her and that fact that the thread was obviously designed to take the mic, not to have a structured debate on the merits of someone who is not the normal size for a Miss England style competition entering the competition.
As far as Mr England is concerned I doubt you would get quite the same reaction from the majority of women, my suspicion is that they'd be more interested in meeting the candiates and judging them on their personalities and sense of humor whilst factoring in looks as well, with that in mind I'm still not entering, no matter how much pleading is done by the female members here :p

I did wonder if that thread would be linked to over here.
I'm not surprised by a lot of the responses but as has been highlighted there has been a semblance of debate in there too which is somewhat heartening to see. Quite a few of the responses do doubtless go over the line of what could even vaguely be construed as constructive criticism but to a certain extent once you've chosen to put yourself 'out there' so to speak then I think you simply have to deal with it (and hopefully people who do so have the unshakeable confidence/good backup from friends and family to do so).
I am just catching up, and I am almost in tears.
People have said to me before, they think I am a very confident person. I personally have never seen it, if others see that in me, then thats fine :)

As for the OcUK thread a thread on women either sexy or not is always going to be hot potatoes or whatever the saying is. Just ignore the morons who post moronic comments. :)
The world is a cruel place. People are judgemental and can be nasty. It's human nature. At the same time we can be the most incredible caring and empathic beings too. However we are all so different people are just not going to see eye to eye. Now personally I don't find her attractive at all, however I have dates some curvy girls not too dissimilar to her (though maybe more built than slightly flabby) who were dynamite to look at because they were pretty, and their confidence and humour/personality oozed from the way they held themselves and despite not being bikini-bodied they did look stunning in the right clothing.
We don't know anything about this woman, and I fear personally that it is a PR stunt, but I'm happy to sit here and say good on her and she's got cojones - well not really - at least I hope not! However, I don't think in spite of a vibrant gregarious personality she would win Miss England as she doesn't really tick enough boxes.
Let's face it there is a fairly generic tick box that most men/women have - well if not conscious at least subconscious - ultimately I agree a strong matching personality will always win, however you would be ignorant and daft to put aside the physical attraction side of things.
The "fat pig" comments are unkind, and it's laudable that people are defending her / attacking the aggressive scrotes on OcUK - however, I've been known to be offensive about people so I'm a bit of a hypocrite - and in spite of their comments as aggressive as they are it's easier to say something strong and punchy which relates to your feelings compared to something more wishy washy (but kinder) like "I find her very unattractive and think that frankly <insert blurb>" . However on a public forum with the relative anonymity one gets it's easy to be brazen with little repercussions.
To people's faces or behind their backs and around people I care or even around people I don't know I try to be sensitive and attentive not to offend people's feelings etc... However, I am rather aggressive towards people who don't look after themselves and demand pity etc... as I am towards other issues which are nothing to do with bodysize etc...
Remember a lot of people there like to stir a reaction, speak just for the sake of speaking and it's not for anyone to take personally - whilst it's an admirable quality you're not doing yourself any good and well, she can't hear you.
Why any of you would start to feel self conscious about comments made towards someone like that girl is silly. Remember she may be a bit overweight but her face mings, none of you have either problem in my eyes and I'd hit all of you in case you were wondering. Seriously though, don't be wound up by other people's overly aggressive use of language. I try very hard not to towards the Israelis so in that respect I have the same issue I can't help but be personally affected by it. IT's irrational and uncontrollable.
Please don't any of you become self conscious or worry about the comments there. They do not represent the whole of the male population - it's a forum, people can be aggressive and get away with it. Listen to your friends as friends > *.

i've not read the thread over there, but i did see the report in the news and have seen her pictures.
i can see why people don't find her attractive, but only in the same way i can understand why some people don't like the way size 0 models look.
i agree that there are is no need for offensive comments (like i say, i haven't seen the thread), but people DO have different tastes in women, which they shouldn't need to explain / apologize for.
Will speaks sense.
I think the overriding problem which has illicited many of the negative responses is the fact that that girl is not attractive and that bikini photograph is exceptionally unflattering. Her face looks horrible as does her body, that photographer did her no favours at all, nor did the horrific amounts of jpeg compression.
Many larger girls can look fantastic and it's not something that's ever really bothered me at all. That particular girl however, is not an example of an attractive larger woman and the situation is only made all the worse by the fact she's competing in a pageant that largely focuses on her looks.

If you read the thread I think you'll understand why people are upset, its not about what you find attractive its about not using offensive language to describe other peoples bodies which leads to other people being self conscious.
I don't think anyone is in any doubt that people have different taste but calling some one a pig or a pasty lover because they aren't conforming to the normal expectations for a bikini model isn't about what you find attractive its about being a tosser. Its typical male dominated forum banter and I don't really expect more from a lot of the OcUK membership, in fact I'm quite surprised by the level of intelligent debate it has raised and proud of the members here (who are also my friends) in how they have reacted to it.
What concerns me is what does the future hold when so many of our young men find women who are over a size 8 and don't look like glamor models quite so hideous, the human race may be doomed

Thing is you've just hit the nail on the head. It's a predominantly male frequented forum. It's no different to pub talk or locker room talk. I'll admit now I've been guilty of joining in on the "she's minging" or "I wouldn't touch her with yours" or other such degrading comments. It's a harsh thing that blokes do. It's just the way it is. Women bitch and moan about men just as much behind closed doors - it's just in this instance it's public. It's a shame it's so visible and it's a shame it's offending my friends, but it's just the way it is I'm afraid :( I want to say sorry, but it's not my fault.

What concerns me is what does the future hold when so many of our young men find women who are over a size 8 and don't look like glamor models quite so hideous, the human race may be doomed

I think you know deep down this probably isn't the case for a lot of them, it's a case of expectations and situations.
In this case, when you've just been told to look at a picture of Miss England, you immediately have a mental image of a slim, toned, tanned 'perfect' woman. That's what these contests are about to most people. When the person you then see is a long way from the expectation you had, the effect of 'repulsion' (for lack of a better word atm) is multiplied.
Much the same as if you went to look at a car that had been described as pristine, you'd be expecting an immaculate car, with excellent paint work, good as new interior etc. If it was less than this when you got there, even if it was just a few stone chips, dirty mats and stuff, your impression of the car would be wholly more negative than if you had been expecting a few chips etc.
When you then throw the internet into the mix, with it's anonymity, childishness etc. combined with a large contingent of adolescent males, it's hardly surprising.

The thing that annoys me most is that they are mostly going to be peeps who would die to go out with someone like her, but would never get the chance.
Also why do the majority of guys have to be complete and utter twats about woman's appearances and why is it that important? When it comes to men though they can get away with being whatever they want to look like, there is no one saying men have to look a certain way, should feel bad if they don't? Why is it just woman that have to look a certain way?
A majority of the peeps on OcUK are jerks and that is why I don't even bother with over there anymore
What I want to know, in all seriousness here, is why people are using pasty lover as an insult and taking it as a derogatory remark?
I LOVE pastys. My stomach in rumbling at the thought of them. The emmets on OcUK are being incredibly blasphemous over a food that is very dear to me. I am a pasty lover. That is my crime?

evolution came from our young men (and women) being 'picky' about who they breed with, so i don't really feel your comment is either accurate or appropriate.
i really hope that the majority of the population don't base their relationships purely on looks, but when it comes to a 'beauty pageant' you will always view it with certain expectations when it comes to the way the women are going to look.

What's with all the long threads today?
I made sure I read the whole thing before posting (in not a very serious way) over there and I understand your anger Pheebs, and I also think you put your thoughts across well :) In fact, it was so serious and clever, I had to check the sig a few times to check it was you :o Just didn't hear the usual craziness ;D
Anyway, that said, I think Will pretty much hits the nail on the head. It's a male thing, mainly young male thing admittedly but it's something that is expected when you enter those types of threads over there. I'm not defending it btw but I think people need to take such threads with a pinch of salt rather than taking it to heart so much. I know it's hard at times, but that's when you have to remember that regardless of anyones opinion no-one is perfect and every person here is cared about. *hugs*

I dunno, there isn't as much pressure on guys but it's still there.
You'll find plenty of guys who'll beat themselves up over the fact they don't look like this;

I really think you need to have a look at the thread I'm commenting its progressed from a debate purely about Miss England and become a wider discussion.
The idea of the concept of the pickiness of internet geeks refusing to breed with anything other than glamor models causing a catastrophe of global proportions is my (obviously failed) attempt at sarcasm.

As I already said to a few of the girls, it's just as well I don't go to OcUK meets anymore, it appears there would be wall to wall barfing! :p
I found the thread offensive, not because people found her unattractive but for their attitude. Also for peoples distorted idea about what is 'normal'. People calling her a 'creature' and the like, completely uncalled for. There was a lot of that over the top childishness that really winds me up too, saying they were nearly sick looking at the picture. Total fake over reaction, similar to little children when they won't try something new. Either that or they have some serious issues of their own. I have never seen anyone so unattractive they made me feel sick. Then again this is on a forum where people like Nicole Kidman are called mingers ;) (you may not personally be attracted to her but it would be sensible to say most people would at least rate her as an moderately attractive person at least).

True, there is no where near as much pressure on guys, I know very few girls that would insult a guy on the way they look. Yes woman like to look at guys like him, but we don't all want blokes to look like them.
I understand what you mean though, but there is so much more pressure on woman, I hardly ever see pictures of men being critizied in magazines or forums because they don't fit in with a certain look/size/perfection.

There is some pressure on guys, its become worse of late with more and more clones of Men's Health on the shelves but it isn't close to being as bad.
What do you think of my idea of women perpetuating the issue through buying magazine which carry articles criticizing the way other women look and offering 'solutions' Tink. I think the media has a lot to answer for both in conditioning men but also (and much more so, I believe) in conditioning women to believe they must conform and damaging their self confidence when they don't?

Well that makes things more complicated and I think the first thing to do is work out whether you don't like your self because you don't conform to what you think that society expects or whether its a deeper seated reason, if it isn't then listen to your friends rather than your perception of society. If you still want to change and if its doable then do it :)

The language used by some people over there and how aggressive they were was totally out of order which was my main bugbear. I'm not going to pretend not to feel a bit hurt by their reactions on a personal level because i am, that girl has a million times more confidence than i do and they ripped her apart from an opinion formed on one news article and a bad picture.

What a load of tripe !!!
Attitudes like those posted make me sick, they are the reason why sometimes I look in the mirror and want to cry when faced with my lumps and bumps :/
It's bad enough that it makes fat chicks like me feel under confident - but when perfectly slim ladies like Piggy are upset by these comments it's really gone to pot.

Matt I do agree that magazines, the press have a lot to answer for, they are the ones that make these comments spread like wild fire and get people thinking they should act the same. I do think that people should stop buying such magazines but that is never going to happen, the magazines need to stop putting such derogatry images or comments.
To be honest I know it prob has effected alot of woman to feel like they have to change, but when it comes to me I dont think it has, I hate the way that I look, but alot of that has been down to people telling me that i look horrible, fat etc.
I still think that alot of the issues have occured because of boys/men telling females that they should do this, look that way and that we aren't "normal" if we dont comply.
Rich you really don't have anything to worry about, you are such a lovely person and I personally wouldn't change anything about you!
Vix I absolutely agree with your point.
I haven't even bothered reading the thread. Why upset myself over another thread full of comments saying anything over size 8 is a biffer? I give myself a hard enough time as it is, without reading comments made by people I don't know or care about.
However, I agree with the people who say it's more about the attitude rather than peoples' personal taste. I have no problem with people preferring fat/thin/big boobs/little boobs, but to say it in such a way that it's offensive to other people really isn't on. I also appreciate that it goes on behind closed doors all the time and maybe we're more exposed to it because it's a male-dominated forum, but that doesn't stop people getting any less upset when they hear it!
P.S. I'm a size 6 btw :p

Exactly, the majority of boys over there will have a girlfriend just like the rest of us, or probably won't have one at all. It's not very nice to read, but at the end of the day, OcUK is very much a lad's forum and is heavily populated with boys who seem to think unless a girl looks like Kelly Brook, they're an ugly whale. Granted the particular girl in question isn't "stunning" to me, and I don't fancy her greatly, even though she's around the same size as my own missus. However I wouldn't kick her out of bed, and she certainly isn't terrifyingly ugly like some of the lads over there make out. It'll always be like this over at OcUK simply because of the forum demographic IMO.
