Anyone else watch the fight? Must say he has come on a bit since his early days going pro. Not an ounce of fat on him and really looked upto the task. Annoyed that he is *still* getting caught with the overhand right.

He was caught a few times with this and was clearly phased by it with the constant switching of styles for around a minute. All it will take is a big hitter and he could really be in trouble. Kristjansen wasn't much of a puncher. He did come forward a lot and land some good combinations, but the raw power wasn't there.

Ol' Frank upto his usual tricks. There are two other contenders for the title which he wants to go first ($_$ anyone).... I do agree in that he has raised his game right up, but Khan does need more high level opponents to be tested against.

At least they have stopped putting him up against turkeys for him to knock down :rolleyes:

The fight afterwards though, that was brutal. I took one look at Matthews (WBU featherweight) and Tseveenpurev and it was damn obvious from the bell in the second that Matthews was going down. The mongolian guy was just built with such damn strong shoulders, Matthews looked scrawny in comparison.

We caught the second fight when we came in and watched the first few rounds then Sinead got bored ;D
We said the same thing, Matthews looked like a skinny fooker in comparison.

How many Asian men have you seen bulk up like that in such a short period of time :huh:
Khan is a show pony brought out for entertainment purposes & to turn over pound notes.
Shame as i thought he had real Talent a couple of years ago. Another potential prospect spoilt by greed & poor management.

On top of that did you see the Disgrace that was British boxing before that. Some littel Chinese bloke battered the living crap out of some Whitey. In 1 round he was knocked down 3 times and gioven the standing 8, On top of this the ref stopped the fight willy nilly to give him even more of a chance to recover. Complete digrace & i am just glad the china man had the energy to finsih the dude off.

Yeah Khan started out at the same time as Audley Harrison. Trouble was with Audley they believed their own hype and he got a damn good battering. They are milking Khan for every penny. Then again it didn't cost anything on ITV :) You must be mad to get a ticket though as you aren't going to see a damn thing if you aren't at ringside.

I didn't see the pre-fight, was down the gym. Malc, that sounds like the Matthews fight afterwards. We came in at round two and he got a complete battering, down three times in a round, ref coming in to give him a breather. In the end he even went down from a body shot and just crumpled on the floor. A mistake by Frank there, actually letting one of his "top fighters" in the ring with someone tough. His corner were a disgrace though, about three times the ref asked them if they wanted to throw in the towel.... nope they let the guy keep taking a battering till he couldn't even get on his knees.

I agree that boxing is in a sorry state at the moment. I always liked watching the big blokes, Lewis, Bruno (met him, nice guy) have a good fight. They keep making more belts up for the guys to win, I don't actually know how many belts there are now as everyone seems to have one.

If they did get some decent boxing then I would even be tempted to get something like a full sky subscription

I don't see at all where you're coming from. He can only beat what's put in front of him, and he doesn't really get much choice in who his opponents are. I'd like to see him step up to higher opposition as I think he's got the potential to go all the way, if he tightens up his defence. His accuracy is frightening.

What makes you say that? We've got several world champions, some of whom are obviously the best in their division (Calzaghe is the best Super-Middle, Haye at Cruiser, Hatton at Light-Welter [though he's not a champion any more]), and we've got a lot of potential in the amateur ranks from what I've seen. Certainly not a sham in my opinion.

I'd have to agree with Mr Pitch, I don't know huge amounts about boxing but Britain isn't doing too badly at the moment, it just isn't producing any good heavyweights really - however that is pretty much a Worldwide problem currently.

It is a shame that the premier division of boxing isn't producing great fights since it is mostly between monsters who don't have the skill, movement or guile of the great fighters of old but if you watch some of the lower weight divisions you can still see some cracking matches. If you want an example of how good British boxing can be then do a search for Calzaghe v Lacy, as complete a demonstration of dominance as I think I've ever seen, a true masterclass. Admittedly Lacy probably isn't/wasn't as good as the hype suggested but at the time he'd been build up to be the favourite and should still make decent opposition for almost anyone in the division. However if the story of Willie Pep (http://www.eastsideboxing.com/williepep.html) is to be believed then even Calzaghe would look like a rank amateur, just a shame we'll never see it. :)

The Heavyweight division is probably at it's lowest ebb in the last century. I can't remember a time in history when there was so many poor guys around at the top of the division. If someone like Lennox Lewis or a young Mike Tyson were around today they'd crucify everyone without ever having to get out of 1st gear. You know it's bad when we've got guys like Danny Williams (battered by Vitali Klitchsko) and Matt Skelton (dominated by Ruslan Chagaev) fighting for World Titles. It shows what a sad state of affairs it is.
