View Full Version : Men, Wood and Banging.
What is their obsession?!!?!
This morning I have been doing work downstairs and all I can hear reverberating around the house is:
*BANG BANG BANG BANG BANG........ BANGBANGBANG.... BANG BANG.... BANG BANG BANG BANG BANGBANGBANGBANGBANGBANGBANG*
*heavy breathing*
*clonking of wood*
*sniffle*
*BANG BANG BANG WUMP WUMP WUMP WUMP*
After a couple of hours of thinking... "I'm sure he knows what he's doing" I suddenly start feeling a tad concerned.
So upstairs I go and immediately all I can see is dust sheets and bits of wood everywhere.
After pausing and thinking "Oooh nuh..." I make my way into the study where I am presented with a dust-masked-faced-picky wielding a large hammer and a big bit of wood.
I then notice our boxed in bit in the study (which hides the slant of the stairs) has an enormous hole in it.
Me: *looking slightly baffled* "Ermm... what are you doing?"
Picky: *with a sound of "well duh!?" to his tone of voice* "Exploring?!?!"
Me: *looks at big hole... looks back at picky... starts to wonder how it's all going to get fixed... opens mouth to ask... closes mouth as decides she doesn't want to know... exits room and retreats downstairs*
IMO:
Mens Brains:
Men + Wood + Hammer = I AM GOD OF CARPENTRY, HEAR ME ROAR! RAAR!
ANd he has now just come downstairs, played with the dog, plonked down with a cuppa and said...
"I'm not quite sure how to do the next stage up there"
*WAAAAAAAAAAAAAGH!*
Do you guys not plan!?!?
We never have a plan when it comes to our wood. We just like to bang away ;)
I plan to the extent of never actually starting.
Do you guys not plan!?!?
You can't plan anything after picking up a hammer, you just have to go with the flow.
Me: "Have you not planned this!?!?"
Picky: *high pitched voice* "YES!"
Me: "But you've pulled it apart... have you thought about how you're going to put it together!?"
Picky: *high pitched-stop-accusing-me-of-being-non-god-like-with-my-hammer-voice* "YEEES!"
Me: "How are you going to put it together?! Where are you going to get the stuff from?!"
Picky: *matter of factly voice* "B&Q" *stoopid grin on his face*
Me: "What?! How'd you know B&Q will have what we need?!"
Picky: "WE NEED WOOD! They do WOOD! It's only WOOD!"
*sigh*
What actually is he trying to achieve?
:huh::p

I would love to laugh but this often happens here. Dad decides something needs to change then goes out to his garage for about 3 days. Although he is very good at things like that and actually finishes them and they look great but it scares the bejesus out of mum and i because of the state of him.
At least Picky is unlikely to set himself on fire, or try and cut off his toes with a circular saw...think yourself lucky there lol!
Oh yes, even as a non-DIY-er, I know this pleasure. I've done my bit over the last month or so. The rule is - if at first you don't succeed, hit it harder. :)

The art is stopping just before a crack starts to appear. :p

*waits for picky to whack himself hard*
:)
Well, we've recently (when I say recently - the past day or two) discussed building in a bedframe into the study room so we can knock out a lot of theboxed in bit and thus create more room.
Currently our conversations have been the brief ones such as "Yes, it sounds like a good idea" and "yes it would make more room, we should do it at some point" so it's not been that in depth :)
Buuut I think this is what is happening roughly:
Currently it's like so and is not utlising the space we have in there properly:

This is how we envisage it:

Storage wise there will be a load under the bed, which means getting unsightly objects hidden and out the way!
He's just done some explaining and I feel a little more confident now! :)

The only reason that men agree to do DIY is because we get to play with power tools ;D

I get the impression that he has just opened up a bloody great hole in to either your or next doors airing cupboard

Absolutely - beating the thing into submission is no good if you make more work for yourself in the process. :)
And MB, I see your point. There could also be an entire civilisation inside that boxed in bit.
I haz wrecked my chisel...fo' shizzle my nizzle.

fixed
So what are the shelf and the desk for then? Seems to me they'll just be a health (*cough*) hazard.
Oh dear. Looks like no one will ever want to stay in the study now :(
Desk = poota time and shelf = head board ;)

You mislabeled the Window.
It should be "Window to look out of while doing the sexy time" though you'll want to make sure the radiator is turned off to avoid the risk of getting burned bits.

(pickers) its not the airing cupboard, its the slanty bit up the stairs...

I love banging on wood and Last weekend I built a stair enclosure to stop Daniel climbing the stairs.. I call it "DanielGate"
I'm pretty crap when it comes to this sort of thing but I do my best :)
Bang Bang!
Lee.
I initially got excited when Picky told me you'd brought him round a jigsaw. I was like "OooOO! I've not done a jigsaw puzzle in AGES! Funno!"
:'(
He's no upstairs making more noises with his wood. All I can thank you for is the variation of noise from this morning. It's gone from BANG BANG BANG to
"SAAAAAW--ERR--OOOR---ERR-OOOR---ERRR.....eeie eeie eeie eeie eeie............ SAAAW--ERR--ORR--ERR--OrrRRrr-ErRRRr..... eeie eeie eeie eeie. SHUG SHUG SHUG SHUG SHUG SHUG.*

PBbbbbbbbbbbbbBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBRRRAAAA AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARrrrr
OoOOoooooooooOOOOOOOOOOAA
AAaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrRRRRRRRRRRRR*

*eeeie eeeie eeie eeeie*
*WUMP*

HAHA that is EXACTLY how a jigsaw sounds Pheebs. ;D;D
Mum wants to get rid of the unsightly concrete path in the back garden. I have told her that if a sledgehammer were to magic its way into my hands concrete path would be gone. :D
Borrowed a neighbour's sledgehammer a few years back to get rid of a concrete post that was for the washing line. Muchos fun smashing it to bits. :D
I IS PICKERS THE DESTRUCTOR!
Now I need to morph into Pickers the CONSTRUCTOR and start rebuilding. I dont have much patience though, so this is where I could end up cutting corners (pun intended) and creating a wobbly bed frame with insufficient support above the stairwell ceiling....
I best start taking some pictures.
(oh, and lee, I may have broken a saw bit :embarrassed:)
