Bad things come in 3's? Well I'm done for a while then.
1) I have footprints in my bonnet - YAY!
2) They've started doing roadworks on my route to work - not a big problem? Wrong! As they've closed the entire road for 3 months I now have to add an hour @ 3mph to my trip to work - in a car that overheats since the footprints have appeared in the bonnet...
3) About an hour ago - playing Mario Kart on the Wii.... Room is nice and warm and I've got a nice cup of posh Assam and a cinnamon bun from Krispy Creme on the go. Then there's a pop and a hiss and the sound of dripping.
The oil heater in the lounge has burst - sending hot, pressurised, oil vapour and droplets everywhere in the flat - and pissing it out over the floor.
Kim's on the phone to the insurance people ast the moment - looks like we're going to need a new floor and probably replace all the soft furnishing in the lounge, bedroom and my playroom. Everything is covered in a film of oil - the floor is fun. Already fallen over once and smashed my head on the floor.
Day off work for me tomorrow to clean this s**t up I think.
Arse
*hugs*
In a manly way of course.
Ruddy heck!
That is bad luck :(

It's managed to drop several litres of oil onto a wooden floor surprisingly quickly. It's buggered.
I really can't put another wooden floor down - I can barely kneel for long enough to do up a shoelace.
Carpet it is then. :D

Surely you just have the insurance company pay someone else to put a wooden floor down for you.
I'd have thought that the insurance would cover the cost of doing any rebuilding work as well? It did when our kitchen got a bit flooded.

A bit flooded? Is that what you said to Mrs Feek on the phone? :D

Dunno - insurance people were apparently hopeless - Kim's going to try again tomorrow.
It did when our kitchen got a bit flooded.
And here is the good reason why men should not be allowed in the kitchen. ;)
And why Huddy should not be allowed in the vicinity of a kitchen. :p
Cheeky buggers, it was due to a leaky pipe in the bathroom above!

Hmmm - use a coat hanger to break it up next time.

Feigns shockedness.

Unlucky Flibster :(
Which road is it that's closed?
One of the rat roads between Hitchin and Stevenage. No idea what it's called - but it's screwed several people at the company up. When it's open - one of the guys I work with lives 5 minutes drive away - now it's shut it's made his journey around 45 minutes.... It's mental.
Sorry to hear about your troubled times...... can you please send Mario kart to me i shall look after it while you get everything sorted out and send it back when you are all sorted and able to play it again! :D
Edit: Oh and is the Krispy creme bun ruined? if not i'll have that as well!
No and no.... :pa
Wii and Mario kart has been moved into my playroom which isn't too badly effected by aerial oil. Krispy Creme was consumed quickly while hunting for stuff to put under the heater to catch the oil - which is still coming out. I don't waste cinnamon buns. Wish I had another one now. :(
We have also found the guarantee for the heater - 4 years 4 months old - and has a 5 year guarantee. :D
:(
Out of curiosity, what sort of oil heater?
(just to reduce the chances of that happening to me if I use mine - which I don't do very often fortunately).
Definitely take the day off.

Sadly - I'm posting this from work....
ARSE!
We have one, ONE!!! person off ill so I HAVE to be in work today.
Well - ok, but I'm gong to do very little.
As for the heater type Mark, it was a DeLonghi - the older version of this (http://www.delonghi.co.uk/product_page.php?id=88&key=Oil%20Filled%20Radiators) one.
On the other hand - it's warm at work - no heating at home where it's sodding cold!
Oh lovely. That's precisely the one I have. Noted. :/
It's my backup 'if all else fails' job though, so currently in a cupboard. I'll be sure to inspect it before next use.

We've got a guy here who likes being ill. You can pretty much guarantee if there's an emergency and you have to take the day off he will have called in sick already. Happened to me twice now, once with a death and the other time when I was genuinely very ill and shouldn't have been in work or driving.

Well - flat is still a greasy ****hole!
Not allowed to take any time off for the next 3 weeks - the flat is pretty much unlivable. Tomorrow, I'm asking if they will put me up in a hotel and pay for meals.
However, yesterday - a girls pet croaks, and she had yesterday and today off...
**** it!
Flibster, cant you do something like put some barely-diluted washing up liquid into a misting bottle and spray that up and down the wooden floor how that the aerosol-delivered oil will have settled? That in conjunction with a mop might at least make you able to walk around the flat a bit easier!
Either that or call in Red Adair.
