Just a bit of a pointless rant.

I've got a few days shore leave until the rig are ready for us to set up our gear for the new well. It's lovely to get a bit of R&R and lounge around for a bit having the odd beer (just to be sociable, obviously) but I'm being eaten alive by ****ing mosquitos. It doesn't seem to matter how many potions I apply to my pasty Scottish skin, the little bastards seem to love Jock blood :angry::angry:

/Rant over.

The bloody things love me. I always get bitten to buggery by them when I'm in Milan, last time I was there I woke up in the morning and the little sods and bitten me right across my shoulder blades and it was agony!

I'm off to South Africa on Safari in June and have already been to ask about Malaria tablets. Knowing how much the thing slove biting me and that I'll be in a Malaria zone I wanted to get that sorted. All I need now is some spray and a book the thwap the buggers.

Remember to take Pheebs and her encyclopedia :D Thankfully, there's no malaria in Egypt or I'd be well and truly buggered.

They seem to love my lower legs. I can count 13 on my right leg from the knee down alone.

Good point, Stan. Pheebles, are you and your encyclopedia free the first week in June?

Remember the pictures I posted two years ago when I got bitten to buggery while putting the pool up in the garden? Little bastards like the flavour of Feekblood.

Stan - Use 100% deet, there is nothing else worth using.

Yes yes yes! I am!

I am free for any mozzy swatting abroad at anytime! :D Though I may require a G&T to keep me going...

They tend to like me lots too so mebbe I can get their attention on me!

Rumour has it (so the radio has been telling me), Mozzys are 3times more attracted to blue than any other colour. So avoid blueness.

:)

It'll be my blue Scottish skin that's attracting them then :D

I'm sure I could provide the occasional G&T in exchange for your mosquito swatting services!

I've not heard about them being attracted to blue, but I have read in a few places that they're attracted to Rhesus negative blood - like mine!

They're not too bad in Cyprus, but they're around, especially when you go out to dinner. I normally get stung on my toes only place I don't have hair, though when I spent over 3 months in Cyprus over the summer went nice and brown and my skin seemed to be tougher for them... That and eating lots of garlic - they don't like garlic!

That's because you're always laughing like a hippo and thus your head doesn't stay still long enough for them to settle :)

This is what i came in to say. Not just garlic though there are plenty of food stuffs that make you sweat or ommit an aroma that mozzys don't like. Best thing always to do is ask the locals, But ask a few of them so that you know you are getting the best answer :)
You are probably covered in deodarant & after shave hoping to pull & sweating real ale & scotch, I bet you smell like a Banquet to a Mozzy ;D

One of the best repellants i've found is citronelle (in french). The plant has long bladed leaves that smell very much like lemons..... So you just rub some of the leaves on your arms/legs and your sorted....

Btw not sure if thats the right name in the uk, but thats the name of the plant in Mauritius.

I'm not looking forward to taking them as they make me feel like crap for the first couple of days :(

Citronella is a naturally occuring mosquito/insect repellent. Jungle juice is good if you don't like bugs. I'm not overly fussed in desease free countries - though malaria tablets sound nasty :/

I have just been bitten by a mozzy! On my neck! How very very odd, I haven't been bitten in AGGGGEeeEEes! Little buggers must sense my fear and hunt me down!

Did you send one over to me Stan? A mini Mozzy assassin? To reap my blood? HMmm HMmMmMm!?
