View Full Version : What do you do when you're unhappy?
As title - what do you do to cheer yourself up when you're unhappy?
Drink beer.
Cuddle Lom.
Play with the kids.
Sit on the PC and click StumbleUpon a few times.
Listen to music, or go to the gym... or go to the gym & listen to music! Go for a blast on the bike. Chat to some friends. Try and get on with something to distract me.
Pick up my guitar, and strum away :)
Oh that's a good one, I agree. Though I then get annoyed that I'm not as good as I used to be and I get further depressed :p
Play with the boys.
Bubblebath with book and booze.
Chat to my friends.
Problem I find is if I'm really unhappy then they may help short term but as soon as I stop doing them, they stop helping.
I know the feeling Sam.
Actually I sometimes comfort eat... and not good food either. I then become irritated and upset that I'm undoing the hard work and dedication I have given to improving my health/body & fitness.
Oh that's a good one, I agree. Though I then get annoyed that I'm not as good as I used to be and I get further depressed :p
Meh.. I do what I can do, and fiddle however I can. If I can't manage to play something or do a particular technique, I just try something else.
Too logical my friend. Far too logical!
I like to cook and get some spannering time in the garage. I like making things. My comfort eating is usually a result of my own cooking so it's normally quite healthy. Last night was a classic example, made a huge blow-out stir fry for myself - except it was probably the most hearty healthy meal this week ;D
It's not often I'm unhappy, but the other night I put on some music and it cheered me up. I looked out of the window and into the street, I waked in the garden, I looked at what I DO have in my life.

I noticed recently that when I'm really unhappy I tend to hide away from people  I'll listen to music, go down the gym or have a good cry to get it out of my system! :o
If I'm just a little unhappy I talk to friends or watch a chick flick to pick myself up :)
Have a good cry.
Go for a walk and take photos.
Play some Legend of Zelda.

Good attitude :)
I tend to either talk it out with a few people or play games. It doesn't fix everything because it depends on why you're unhappy but most general things, it works for me. Often it's more that I just want to get away a bit from the problems and walk away, so games work well for that. Then I come out from it when I want to face the problem and deal with it. With the average problem, it's simple enough to fix then if I step away briefly.
or have a good soak in the bach with door locked.
Piano music eh?
Star gaze.
I tend to look at the stars every night anyway when I take my puppy dog into the garden (weather permitting) but yeh. I love the stars and it makes me realise how amazing the world is and everything is just... gorgeous. Also reminds me that everyone I know and love are somewhere under them, possibly even looking at the same sky I am.
People watch.
I LOVE people watching. I make up stories in my head about who they are, what they do, their names etc. Makes me happy.
Walk.
Taking my doggy out. Bit of air and a boundy puppy dog is superb.
Draw.
Draw draw draw. And write. I draw how I feel and then write what I want to achieve in my little day/life. It's therapeutic :)
I waked in the garden
The big question is, was that an 'l' or an 'n' you missed out of that word?

I go away from people, when I'm sad I just want to be on my own. I drive off to the country parks or to the beach and sit there and either cry or just try to clear my mind.

Depends what's making me unhappy really.
If I'm feeling lonely I'll talk to people - sometimes I'll even go through to the sitting room and watch America's Next Top Model or whatever pish Kelly's watching and slag it off just for the sake of some company :p
Sometimes I just accept that being unhappy occasionally is part of life - it's almost impossible for anyone to be happy or contented all the time and I'll just let life rumble through it's natural process.
Good quality single malt and loud music sometimes helps (often combined with some insane seekrit dancing and serious air guitar action) :D

Hide the painkillers, lose myself in a good book or do some craft, or watch a film. And try and find someone on line to talk to.

I also listen to my fave tunes very loudly or I'll go on a killing spree on BF2.
Some times I'll just sit there in total silence smoking a big fat J though thinking about my mates that are dead. This takes me through a stage of reminiscing & then makes me realise just how lucky i am & i snap out of it :)

I've often tried this but I keep giving myself the cold shoulder and saying I have a headache! :D
Good attitude :)

I've a habit of playing games too when things are starting to get on top of me. Allows part of my brain to switch off and concentrate on something, in the mean time the rest of my head is able to more methodically work through whatever it is that is bothering me. Seems really weird to be playing a game at a good level of difficulty and still be able to wrangle away at something effectively simultaneously.
I think that's what my brain does too. Multitasking ftw ;)
I often find I play FPS games better if I'm stressed or worrying about something. I think I just go into autopilot so end up quite instinctive in the end :D
I'll have a cry or talk to the ratties. If I'm feeling really bad I'll curl up and sleep.
I bottle it up and wear a fake smile. In my family, being open about these things is a sign of weakness.
Throw myself into work. There's nothing like chatting with other people and hearing their problems and worries to put mine into perspective.
I become a hermit and withdraw from all of my friends. Or try to talk about it and then brush it off with an 'ah it'll all be FINE!'. It's amazing how used to being unhappy you can become. I also find I avoid doing the things that I know will make me feel better, like going to the gym or eating properly. Basically I seem to do as much as possible to ensure I remain bloody miserable.

From my experience, if chicks are unhappy about things, they tend to storm into the house in a big huff and sigh very loudly. When you enquire "Anything the matter?" you get "NO!" as a reply. You then carry on playing xbox for 5 mins before you get another massive sigh followed by them storming off to the bedroom and slamming the door.
Still, crappy 14" terrestial TV in there compared to a 42" HD plasma with Sky/Xbox attached in the front room - Who ends up the winner there? ;)
Drink beer.
Cuddle the Kids.

I stick on comfort entertainment, simple comedy usually. Stuff like Royle Family or Early Doors.
I sometimes go for a nice hard drive if I'm feeling angry and wound up, but I've stopped doing this as driving when angry is a very bad idea. I've never had any problems but I know I could easily do some damage hurtling along at stupid speeds for no damn reason other than to vent anger. It's not safe venting.
A few times I've hit the vodka when really depressed and it made it a thousand times worse. When I'm nearly in tears and I see booze it's very tempting to neck a few back and get out of it for a while but I resist simply by remembering that I don't want to make it worse.

It always makes me chuckle, last time that exact thing happened it was a full sulk and it sounded like the cast of stomp was in the flat.

I love you.
I also play with my new studio lights. Worked a treat tonight :D
I keep an old FPS or two installed (Painkiller, Quake 3) along with a list of cheat codes.
God mode + rocket launcher or equivalent + lots of bots = utter carnage. :D
Haven't done this in a while. Tempting.

Depends on why I am unhappy but it's normally either a bin full of beer followed by a rant to the poor unsuspecting soul(s) I am drinking with or a big fat spliff and a ****e mindless comedy.
If my mind is stuck on something minor that is annoying me then I stare as Klara's boobies while she jumps up and down.
If i'm just feeling a bit down, wander over to a mates, watch a bit of WWE, have a blast on his 360 for a bit, eat junk food etc.
If i'm annoyed upset, loud music, weights, exercise, just to release. Doing weights when you're really angry is awesome. Occasionally get out gloves/pads and do some punching exercises with my sister too.

I do that when I get wound up. Fire up Painkiller, engage God Mode, get all weapons, get unlimited ammo and wade through corpses - brilliant tension relief :D

I search jewelry websites. I don't know why it helps but it does. Tiffany's is my website of choice for comfort searches.
Or I eat chocolate. That helps too!

Why do woman do that ? Nibble chocolate that is?

And I think they put nicotine in it.

;D I've never nibbled chocolate in my life, scoffing or nothing tbh :p
I'm scoffing choc right now, but its celebrating the fact that I've just completed and handed in a huge chunk of work which will result in me being signed off independent! Woopwoop!!
I also find I avoid doing the things that I know will make me feel better, like going to the gym or eating properly.
I'll be partaking in the Pebs method tonight - cba to gym even though I know I should and getting chinese takeaway for dinner ...
It's a tried and tested method :D

or I stop and think about scaring my beautiful baby with the frog in the box that she hates.
Fixed.
:p
I just tend to retreat into my room, avoid people and watch dvds all day, Stuff i have seen before as nothing beats a NCIS, CSI or B5 viewing session when you are down.
SCM
I sometimes go for a nice hard drive
Like a western digital caviar?
My dogs are the best cure for being unhappy Failing that it's sitting down with a cup of tea and watching SG-1 or the like. Although saying that I couldn't tell you the last time I was unhappy.

I don't get unhappy much but I tend to find that going to the gym and/or going out for a night out with mates usually sorts me out. I very occasionally get even more hacked off in the gym but at least it has distracted me from whatever was bothering me to begin with.
