right, got a new xp install (yesterday) and then today i wanted to watch some of my video files so installed the combined community codec pack.

launched a few video files but didn't get any video, just audio. tried them in VLC, mpc, wmp. all the same.

i then removed CCC and installed FFDshow - same things happening.

could someone suggest a fix for this please? :)

i've ran Gspot but it says i've got the codecs needed installed already.
it did have an error though, for which i got a screen shot...
print screeny imagery thing (http://www.marksweb.co.uk/images/uploads/gspoterror.jpg)

Well, the error appears to mean "The owner SID on a per-user subscription doesn't exist ". Have to say I'm none the wiser, unless of course the videos are DRM-protected.

Do you have any non-DivX media? WMV will do. Can you turn off 'video overlay' on your player?

Assuming non-DRM, my suspicions lie with either the Codec or your graphics drivers.

If the codec packs and VLC didnt work thats slightly dodgy, because VLC should just work out of the box, it has everything it needs itself...
I'd be inclined to try something like a WMV as mentioned...

certainly no DRM.

i just want to watch last nights south park as i do every week!
just so happens this week that i'm now running XP :(

avi, mpg and wmv only display audio.

still no video, all just opened in vlc

the thumbnails display the video and a few are just things i recorded on my phone.

Well, your file is fine, as I have the same one and GSpot looks identical :p

do you get the same errors as well?

In VLC, go to Settings/Preferences, Video, and untick 'Overlay video output'. Does that make any difference?

I get some errors in Gspot regards ffdshow, different to yours, but it still plays fine in MPC, VLC, WMP and WinAmp.

OK - a better bet would be to get graphics card drivers that aren't broken, and then turn video overlays back on. :)
