Well seen as though i've got my fancy new HDD with a good 800gb free and then just read about the latest release of Ubuntu I thought i might give it another go.
I tried the last release but it didn't quite 'work' like i expected it all would. But i get bored easy and think i'll give this new one a go (maybe on vmware first) but again, i don't know which version is best.

Which one is everyone using? i know theres a fair few users, but are you all just running standard ubuntu?

I use the standard Ubuntu. Was running 7.10 up until the final release of 8.40 the other week. Fully upgraded now and whizzing along :)

oh, another thing... has installing windows apps got any easier?

i seem to remember the point in which i gave up last time was when trying (and failing) to use Wine!

If you want to use Windows apps, use Windows :) If you really want to try Linux, then spend some time looking at equivalent programs. There's so much out there you'll find something you like no problems.

aye, i'm a fan of many equivalent apps. it was just last time i tried to go 100% ubuntu. so wanted to try and install photoshop (gimps crap)
guess i don't need em though, after all i'll dual boot anyways :)

I tried Wine with one but didn't like it much. If I really need to use Windows (which I now use to run InDesign so I can work from home) I run XP in a VirtualBox and it runs flawlessly.
