i'm in the flat - but can't get any further than the hall / bedroom
our internal door which leads to the living room and bedroom has had a faulty lock since we moved in, but it has now finally given up the ghost
it won't even consider opening
maintenance aren't answering the phone, the letting agent has said that if we screw the door handle off we're causing willful damage to the property and will lose our deposit (£800)
BUT
the rabbits are in the living room - i can't get to them, i can't even see/hear them and i'm going out of my mind!
what could / should i do?
*cries*
erm....Options
Call anyone who has keys to your flat
Call emergency services?
Call Locksmith
and are you locked inside?
Does the door open outwards or inwards? I don't suppose kicking it or forcing it open will work?
I'd be taking the handle off and having a look. Bollocks to the letting agent.
Handle off, lock out, open door, replace handle, snuggle rabbits.

eurgh, jasper has instructions from his dad on how to disassemble the lock, he'll be home in an hour, so if maintenance haven't called back - we'll be breaking into the lounge.
the lettings company are so blasé about really not giving a crap - they've said that there is nothing they can do if the maintenance won't call us, that we WILL lose £800 if we take off the lock ourselves.
words fail me - living here makes me SO unhappy. (this is one of a very VERY long line of problems we've had)
i swear, if anything has happened to these rabbits, even if they look a bit too hungry - heads are going to roll.
kitten - they REALLY don't care, my car keys are in there, the kitchen is the othersid of the door, my wallet is in their - so i can't cook, i don't have any money to go out and buy food - our pets are in there and they still do NOTHING
will - i can't kick it, i've tried barging into it but it does nothing. the door opens away from the side i'm stuck - the hinge side is in the living room
belmit - i hope that works - i'm trusting jasper and a screwdriver to get me out of this mess!
i agree bollocks to the letting agent - but saying goodbye to £800 is a little harder!
i am so cross / upset i think i am going to explode

So you're not going to remove the lock with a screwdriver, leaving the frame/door perfectly intact because you'll lose your £800 deposit... but you'll try and barge the door off which still seems to be willful damage to me.
Peculiar.
I'd go with Belmit, I've done it to a couple of the locks in my flat.
Told the letting agency afterwards, gave them a copy of the new keys.
I'd be taking the handle off and having a look. Bollocks to the letting agent.

How will they know that you've had the handle off?

when i say 'barging' - this door hasn't opened easily for about 6 months - it needs a hard shoulder nudge to get it open, even when it's opening.
Re the handles, depends how old the place is. If it's as old as mine the handles don't stay on once you've taken them off. I've been through this problem and had to fetch the superglue. :/

They can't charge you £800 quid for doing that. Legally, they can deduct the cost of what it takes to repair the damage caused. From the sounds of it, it won't be anything near £800.
I'm sure there's a logical clever way of opening it.... I'd just use brawn myself :o Hope you get it sorted!

houston, we have lounge access
the bunnies are fine, but we're going to find out about vacating this hell hole early as soon as someone from rentals gets back to us.
thanks for the advice guys

Glad you're out. Sounds like a rubbish place!
yeah, the screws (don't know the correct term) head where you put the blade had become completely useless, so a sharp kick later and we're in. ****ing flat.
A bit of brute force eh? Me likey! :D :o

Are the bunnies ok? No doubt they have been totally oblivious to the whole fiasco. Glad you got in.

haha, I've never done it before! How much of a man do I feel?! Tools didn't work, but my foot did! :D

haha yeah, they're pretty funny! "Mommy, daddy - we realise that you work, but we're pretty hungry!"
You are now my hero Jasp! I've only ever kicked down a door once (at uni) and I felt like a cretin afterwards (though a little 'ard too) - however in this case rescuing a damsel in distress - well that's just shagtastic bonus scores!

Did Operation 'creation-of-shorter-opertain-codenames' fail? :p
well done! way to save the bunnies:-D

How will they know that you've had the handle off?
Precisely :D
Anyway, glad to see you're finally in. Letting agency sound utter crap, how they can demand £800 just for busting a door lock is rediculous. If/when you move, make sure you let them know why.

I bet it was the letting agency trying to give you the fear.
And it seemed to work, you weren't going to mess with their house.

(the pasta maker i got for my birthday is being used as a door stop - they still haven't come over, if it wasn't for my hero i'd still be sat in the hall!)

I could believe anything of this company - if they charge us £800 for having walked on the carpets in the 12 months we've lived here i wouldn't be surprised!
Precisely :D

they know why we want to leave, and they have done since october - this is really the final straw! they had a rather wordy voicemail to listen to this morning :p

hehe - plenty will be taken this weekend, i'm still learning how to use my camera but i'm sure i can get a snap or two when they decide to sit still!
when they decide to sit still!
Hahahaha - the fun of trying to take pics of moving pets - bribery with treats sometimes works :)
