View Full Version : Doing stuff on your own
Would you sit in a pub with a book and have lunch on your own?
I'm off, I'm bored, I dont want to do housework, I dont want to sit in, I don't want to do anything energetic, I don't particularly want to chat to people, I just want a couple of hours downtime and thought about sitting in a pub garden with a book and some nice pubgrub.
Would you?
Yep :) Everyone needs a little me time.
And pub grub is nom.

I've gone to the cinema on my own before, spent an entire afternoon there watching 2 films it was great :)
Mic has done the solo cinema visits many times

I would, most definitely. I'd probably be more likely to have a laptop or PDA with me than a book, but like Daz said pub grub is nom so I'd go for it :)
I know enough people in my local for it not to be weird but I do it in other pubs sometimes, I don't really care. I have an unlimited cinema pass and go on my own most of the time as its easier than sorting out when and where to go with someone else.
When my girlfriend isn't around I do more stuff on my own.

Hell yes :D
Iam going to see the SATC movie on my own next week, whats the problem? :)
Yes. Done it several times. Why not?
I'm single though so that might account for my willingness not to even think about it.
Yup. Used to go sit in a pub or on a bench or beach or park alone and people watch/read/write/do some contact juggling. I love it. Very mind clearing and relaxing.
But then, I am quite comfortable in my own company and somewhat enjoy it :)
Also been to the cinema countless times alone, theatre once or twice and other places too :)
Many's the time I've got up on Sunday morning, gone to the cinema, and had popcorn for breakfast. The roads are empty, the cinema's empty... OK so it costs the best part of a tenner but I get home in time for lunch and feel like I've done something other than gestate in bed all morning. I'm not sure I could just go to the pub and have a drink on my own, but with a meal and a newspaper, why not?
Absolutely! I love going out for a meal by myself!

Recently I've been feeling more and more solitary and there's nothing wrong with it.
I managed to redress that balance by going to see some friends, Jonny, and Pigmo relatively recently so I don't feel so bad now.
But yeah doing stuff by yourself is actually quite relaxing and good for you IMO. I used to do too much of it when going away for work - that actually felt depressing as it was forced upon me.
Doing it out of your own choice is good - it's your mind's way of saying "give me some time to think". :) Enjoy.

Take a book, mag, study work etc.. In fact that day is today so I'm going to have a steak sandwich and a mega bucket of Coffee!!

The more things you do alone the more people you meet, Fact !!!
Having said that just fill your car up & head up here, I could do with some entertainment before & after the match.
Leave your Rozzer head at home though as there is a distinct smell of green around my manor & there will be until gone mid night :afro:

I miss going to footie!
Yep definitely, if I ever have an hour or two to kill it's great spending it than popping into a pub and reading the newspaper or a book, or sit up at the bar and chat to the barstaff (if hot..lol), a good pastime for sure :)
I'm off then! See you later :)
I've routinely gone off and seen films, or gone to theatre on my own and such. It's more rare for me to go the pub solo without there being some specific reason to be there (e.g. open mic night and I'm going along guitar in hand)

I am on my own a lot, especially at the moment. I don't really mind although there are times when i do feel like i'm becoming a hermit and may as well go find a cave to live in. But i see nothing at all wrong with going to somewhere on your own.
Yes, often. Especially when working away from home..

Yup, I go to the cinema on my own all the time. Or out to a cafe.
Feels weird the first time but then its kinda nice, you dont have to socialise/entertain anyone else and its fun.
Yup, for sure. Though I prefer to have lunch outside where I can, like at a streetside cafe or square. No need for books then you can just watch the world go by. But if in a pub or a beer garden where there isn't much going on a good book will do.
I would rather go out togging on my own as well, I know Daz would get bored with me ;)

 What is this Togging of which you speak.
I'm imagining it involving a Park, some Bushes & some kind of sexual behaviour
Am I right :p
Hell yeah, no reason not to :)

When I went to Portugal and when my friend was working I had to make things to do by myself during the day when she slept and at night when she worked. I'd go and sit outside a cafe where these Indians played Panpipes and read the paper.
It was harder going in a bar by myself but I knew some of the bar staff (slightly different though)
So yep, Its a nice idea to something like that on a day like this :-)
Yes, often. Especially when working away from home..
Same here. It isn't fun doing it day in day out for months on end but on occasion it can be quite relaxing to get some me time.

I'm a big believer in doing things by yourself whether in or out of a relationship; I strongly encourage Aitch to go shopping without me :D
Actually we both do our own things and I think we're stronger for it, I recently took up archery because it was something I wanted to do but it wasn't really Aitch's cup of tea. I used to go to the cinema on my own when I had a free afternoon and wouldn't have a problem going to lunch and reading, lots of people do it, take some sunglasses and sit on an outside table looking sophisticated ;)

Can you actually look sophisticated whilst perving :p
I think I would probably be okay with it. If I didn't have a book, no way...it would just be boring. But with a book I am happy to eat out alone.

:p I feel slightly silly & some what embarrassed but still strangely Aroused.
Initial analyse of Perv is Correct :)
You wouldnt be aroused if you saw what a big lens I have :D
I'm a sales rep, so yes. I tend to sit in service stations drinking a coffee and reading the paper on my own, or if I'm feeling adventurous, I'll sit in a pub for lunch. It feels weird the first couple of times but you get used to it.
Hehe well done Kitty! I went too, and sat in the pub garden with a book, fizzy water and a baguette :D Was tres peaceful.
fankoo!! It was nice. I think I shall try again tomorrow and this time may even attempt to make eye contact with other bar-goers :D
Careful now.. you don't want to get too familiar.

Categorically yes.
Forgot to say, I had to go to Italy for a week on my own for a training course with our Italian suppliers. Granted during the day I was with them, but the night time I was on my own. Was bloody scary I tell you.

I get out solo whenever I can. Never really did the whole cinema trip yet tho, always jus a cafe with a newspaper or a walk in the hills with a camera.
More often than not tho, its up a tree with a book & my ipod. I love the outdoors!

I've eaten at pubs on my own a few times when I've had to stay away with work. I normally hope that some hot business chick is doing the same so I can hook up, but it never happens and I usually get bored ****less having to listen to the the intricacies of the sales ledger system of some middle aged businessman's company.
Sometimes you can blag a load of free drinks on other peoples expenses though ;)

When I worked opposite a big pub, in summer I used to sit outside with a drink and read in my lunch break. Much nicer than sitting in the office. The people there didn't understand 'I'm on my lunch', and would get the hump when I wouldn't do what they asked IMMEDIATELY, so I tried to stay out for the full hour instead.

Yes, and have done many times.
Sometimes I like to go somewhere busy, alone, with something to read and watch the world go by.
I'm a confirmed people watcher, and it's nice to sit back and smell the roses sometimes. Very therapeutic IMO.
People watching is one of my favourite pastimes :)

When I went to see Indiana Jones I went by myself, wanted to go during the week when there were no kids. Got there for the 11am showing, there were only 10 of us in the whole cinema :)
