I've been an avid fan of ctrl+alt+delete for a while now, and have the RSS feed in my reader to make sure I don't miss any of them.

The "Ethan's going to be a dad" storyline was interesting and I was kinda dreading in a happy way the potential comic situations that could arise with having someone so.. umm.. clueless to life having a kid of his own see:

So todays comic strip kinda took me by surprise.

I would strongly advise reading the news article that goes with it to get a feel for the hows and whys behind it. It's a very, very brave step by Tim. I hope he pulls it off.

Article in uber summary;

"It's a plot device to move the story in the way I want it to go"

I don't see what the fuss is about :/

I was a bit shocked as well. I saw the title of the comic and instantly knew what had happend before reading on.

Tim has the ability to pull this off I think, he said he's had it planned since he introduced Lilah, so he's probably got the story to a stage Lucas is getting ready to get married, we'll just have to see.

Miscarriage is no laughing matter, and to put it in a webcomic that is generally humorous (though with odd more serious story lines interweaved) leaves some serious potential for offence. Some may feel he's not being sensitive to those that have experienced miscarriage, or out to deliberately cause offence.

I don't think there are many webcomics with the balls to try something like this. Will be interesting to see how things go.

omg :'(
i read everyone of his strips for about 2 years, not read one for about 2 years though
he characters are all so lovable
the last bit of the 'plot' i really remember is ethan and lilah getting engaged (around the time he gave up the gaming king crown after she was kidnapped)
tim seems to be a really nice guy, and his personal blog is just as fascinating as any of the comics
i don't think i will ever 'get into' this comic again, but good on him for tackling such emotional issues in what is essentially a gaming comic

I was also shocked when I saw this. Pretty moved too which goes to show the power of his writing. I did think "Aw no way" to myself. While it is "just" a webcomic I do think that this is going to make it stronger. Really bold move and good luck to him. I'm sure he'll lose some viewers for it but then thats only their loss.

So you're saying that anything is generally humorous, be it a web comic, tv show or book, can't have a serious storyline every so often? And the fact that an ex girlfriend of his had a miscarriage means he can't write about it?

He's not saying that at all. He's saying that most webcomics wouldn't tackle a subject like miscarriage simply because of it's emotive nature. It's a brave move by ctrl-alt-del that could cost them a fair number of readers (though I'm really looking forward to seeing where this is going).

I'm probably in the minority but I really don't think it's as good as it used to be. I used to find it very compelling but I'm just not that fussed anymore :/ It feels too soap operaish of late if you ask me.

I can definately see the humor in someone totally clueless trying to raise a kid, but miscarriage isn't funny. The writer is going to use it to take the comic somewhere new, but it is a risky move.
I mean, there isn't anything even vaguely funny about todays comic. I am interested to see how he ties the customary humor back in and if he can manage to do it in a way that people will be okay with.

Its a complete cliche but I think we all have bad times but eventually we work through them and the humour returns. I'm sure it will with CAD. The guy said he planned it all out from the start so it should return to form one day.

I kinda like the whole Ethan/Lilah story arcs, keeps me interested in the comic. Shame it's taken this turn, but it'll be interesting to see how it turns out.
