View Full Version : What's this MINI worth?
A colleague of my dad is moving jobs to the US and needs to get rid of his car. He's a bit of an enthusiast so I'm confident it's in good working order and he appears to have been honest with what's wrong with it. He's had an offer from a garage but needs to get rid by the end of the week.

There is a palm dent on the back hatch below the handle and reg number from over-eager closing force.
Garage has offered £6000, which seems a fair bit lower than book price. I'm quite tempted if it's a bargain, but I don't necessarily need a new car right now. I have been looking around though...

Nice, if thats had the TLC package and has been main dealer serviced you can get that extended for cheap servicing. Only -ative in my eyes is Sat Nav which makes the centre dial look naff but its a minor and personal thing tbh.
I couldn't tell you what its worth but £6000 seems very cheap to me although it is an early model. If it helps I would want and would get at least £16k for mine.

Not sure really but I am surprised that they are now going for that kind of money. Now with a smaller pulley on the supercharger you really are laughing (~200 bhp IIRC).

Hmmm, now that is damn cheap upgrades!
So in summary if you can get it (throw him 500 more) then I would go for it. :)
Then do the above, it has to be done really :D
Wow it really is quite the bargain then. £9000 does seem to be the dealer value even on the 52's. Even if I got it and didn't like it I could probably make a few quid. :D Think I'll check out the insurance tomorrow and see what quotes are like. Thanks for the info.
Very tidy little car, I'd buy it!
Lovely colour! Isn't that the same colour as you Works, MB? It looks very similar to the colour of my R32 too.
My dad is offering them (on my behalf) the same £6000 as the garage. He's confident they'd rather sell to a genuine buyer.
Sounds like an absolute bargain Belmit.
Going to see it on Saturday, but I can't think of a reason not to get it. It'd have to be a pretty poor drive to turn them down at this point. Like you say, complete bargain. One of those deals that only comes from knowing someone who knows someone, and you'd regret not going for it.

I very very much doubt you'll be disapointed with the drive, the MINI drives very well if you like go kart handling. You'll find you lose confidence in yourself before you lose it in the car.
It is the same colour as mine although mine has a white roof rather than black

Turns out it was worth £6150.

You could sell that tomorrow and make £2k or you could keep it and enjoy every second of being in the car even when its stationary, mine still makes me smile every time I drive it :)

*wants that car* One day......
Billy bonus mate, chuffed for ya :D
Bargain! Can enjoy it for a year and then sell it on and still make 1k from it.
Been going over what needs doing to it. Front tyres are definitely on the way out and will need replacing before the MOT in Sept/Oct - hopefully they can sort out a tracking problem as well; I have to hold the steering wheel slightly clockwise to keep the wheels centred (pulls left). May get the steering wheel replaced as it's worn on the right hand side (possibly where the previous user was having to hold it down to compensate for the steering issue?) and scratched on the centre hub.
The main thing I want to get fixed is the height adjustment lever on the driver's seat. It's clean snapped off. Found the part here (http://new.minimania.com/web/Item/NMI7651L/AddedFrom/CatBrowse-%20MAINT_REPAIR_N/InvDetail.cfm) but it's on a US site. Anyone have superior Google skills?
Once the above things are sorted out I'll be pretty happy with it. The dent on the boot lid is a minor niggle and a bodyshop person could probably have it out in seconds - no paint damage as far as I can see. May replace the number plates with fresh ones too.
The steering issue won't be fixed by tyres alone I suspect. Get the wheel alignment checked when you get the tyres done and that should sort you out.
Oops, that's what I meant!

Have you tried any local breakers?
Had a quick look on my nearest one that I've been to before and they don't even have any MINIs! May just have to ring around.

I'm starting to really like driving this - drove home from work yesterday in my faux military jacket listening to Ocean Colour Scene. How much of a Mod am I?!
Definitely looking into getting this steering sorted though, starting to piss me off!

Take a drive down to GTT in Poole and speak to Roland about the stearing, give him a ring first to see what he thinks it might be.

What's GTT? Had a quick Google and got some semi-relevant links but nothing obvious.

Very, VERY good choice :D
Very, VERY good choice :D
One of my top five bands ever, EVAH!
Awesomeness has occurred.
Yellow flashing light on dash, check manual, runflat error. Arse.
Hmm, no flat tyre. Check pressures at garage pump. 33, 33, 33... 29. Aha!
Pump it up, reset runflat system, take it for a spin.
No flashing light. :D
Will keep checking it but it looks like it was simply underinflated.
wow... mister belmit, come to exeter and let us enjoy muchos enjoymentism in your new purchase! :D :D

I'm not sure there's enough room in it for that!
Thats what Clare said.. *Fnar fnar fnar*
There's always enough room
Bah, got two permanent warning lights on at the moment. Had to take my old car to work. Going to try disconnecting the battery tonight to reset the software and hopefully it'll clear. :(

If I can manage it in an Elise then a Mini should be easy
Hope the lights aren't anything serious.
Runflat warning light and traction control warning light. Both turned on at the exact same time and won't go off, even after resetting the electrics. I'm going to risk getting it to a garage as it's almost certainly a dash error rather than anything else. Just my luck!

Hmmmm.
Remove the runflats and disable the TC. Neither are wanted. ;)
Well the lights have gone off again. Still going to get it checked out as it's likely an electrical fault of some sort. On the bright side, just had two new front tyres and the pull to the left has vanished. Now running sweet as a nut. :)
