Not many of us on here but I thought I'd post anyway:
Just blagged a day off work to go see the rehersal for the Queens flypast at the weekend. Come and say hi to me at Waddington, I'll be in my white Mk1 MR2
Info taken from a newsgroup:
Here's the lowdown on the full formation which will do the
rehearsal on Wednesday and the 'actual' flypast on Saturday over London. The timings should be the same on both days i.e. 11:15 local time arrive at
Southwold Hold. 12:40 depart Southwold Hold, for rehearsal for Marham and then Waddington (To pass over Waddo at 13:00) on the actual they will
route to London, Buckingham Palace on a routing that more or less takes them
down the A12 trunk route. Time over the palace is 13:00. The weather back-up for the rehearsal is Thursday and Friday. If the weather is too bad on
Saturday they could do it at 16:00 in the afternoon. Last time the weather
went '****' over London on the actual they formed up at Southwold and scrubbed en-route between Colchester and Chelmsford. They didn't try it again in the afternoon.
When the formation is complete *WINDSOR FORMATION* will consist of the following aircraft;
4 x BBMF Dakota, Hurricane, Lancaster and Spitfire (They will
operate from Duxford on the 'actual' and Coningsby for the rehearsal).
1 x C-130 Hercules transport with 2 x Beech B.200 Super King Air
training aircraft (Will join over Lincolnshire for rehearsal)
9 x Typhoons in 'Typhoon' formation
1 x VC.10 K.3 air refuelling tanker* trailing hose* with 1 x
Sentry AEW.1
(The RAF's AWACS 'eye in the sky' with the 'frisbee' on top)
9 x Tornado F.3s in diamond formation
1 x C-17A Globemaster III transport
1 x Nimrod MR.2 Maritme Reconnaissance aircraft with 2 x Tornado
F.3s
1 x TriStar C.2 tanker/transport with 2 x BAe125 CC.3s of 32 (The
Royal) Squadron
16 x Tornado GR.4s in diamond formation (This could well be the
noisiest and most spectacular item!)
