Home alone back in Edinburgh, and the microwave just turned itself on and started cooking nothing and jumping the glass plate around. All on its lonesome, now i'm not normally a pansy when it comes to living on ones on in a big flat, but thats just scared the ****e out of me.

Someone give me a rational explaination because i know there must be one.... :p :D Yeah?

Please be careful. That sounds like the same fault that was not uncommon with older microwaves with digital timers. They'd just randomly switch on without warning. Certain brands were particularly prone to it.

A few safety tips in case it does it again - unplug while out/in bed and leave a large microwave-safe bowl about half full of water in there. Wouldn't want that happening while you have no way to deal with it. :/

My grandparents have a really old one, always leave a plastic cup with water in it in there just in case. Personally I just unplug mine when not in use, every little helps!

its turned off at the wall now, can't believe we've left the flat for weeks on end with it here on standby! Shocking, probably time for a new one... It is a cheap microwave, so you're probably right about the dodgy digital timer, and i like that idea better anyway :D.

Never mind the sodding gaggle of mice we have trooping around our flat...

Weird stuff always goes on when you are home alone. I'm in the same boat as you - empty house for a month. Getting used to it now.

It's easier if you carry a sand wedge around with you for company ( 9 iron will do if you get desperate ) ;)

I've managed for 15 years on my own. Bloomin wimps. :p :D

Touches wood and hopes he hasn't jinxed it. Microwave still attached to wall brackets (check) - boiler hasn't exploded (check) - roof still intact (check).

Mmmmm sand wedge......

When electricity is concerned, there is usually a rational explanation. My microwave ended up being thrown off the kitchen worktop on to the middle of the kitchen floor which is far more harder to explain ;) Well it wasn't too difficult, I just blamed our ghost, Bob :D

A 9 iron would be no good on the stairs, you need something you can swing in an enclosed space.

The most disturbing experience I ever had was when the Furby that had been sat on my tv for 6 months broken suddenly opened it's eyes one night with that whirring noise and stared at me.
