Built in GPS receiver with a heads-up-display unit to project vehicular speed onto the windscreen. Fantastic! And it updates the speed 5 times/second so no lag.

Guess what's going in the Feekmobile next? :D

Ooh, nice! I'd be tempted but I finally got around to hard wiring my speed camera detector into the car so I have a GPS speedo to the right on the instrument cluster now. It isn't a 5 Hz model but it'll do.

but it's a HUD, you've got to have it! I have multiple devices anyway but it won't stop me getting another :)

If I could find a neat way of giving the thing a switched live then I'd be very tempted.

That said, once the work I'm having done on Friday is finished I will have spent £2800 on the car in the last couple of weeks so I should draw the line somewhere.

Would it look a bit like the HUD on the car in Children of men?

Now if it showed rpm and/or a shiftlight and did data logging I'd be interested for the track car. But I guess that's not what it's for.

Price has dropped to £36. I've just ordered one :D

I'm going to put my sensible head on and not get one. It obviously appeals to me as a gadget but I need all the spare cash I can get at the moment so gadgets will have to take a back seat. Never thought I'd hear myself saying that!

I wish! I've been fighting hard to keep my sensible side subdued but it seems to be putting up a strong fight these days. I am not impressed.

I'm tempted. We'll need a full review when it arrives!

Any chance of a review of this Mr Feek? assuming yours has arrived already.

I unsure about the unit, as the I really liked the idea of HUD but reading the Expansys reviews its a reflection rather than projection, so my concerns are that it may be pretty illegible in certain lighting conditions.

I've got it, I've not fitted it yet because the weather forecast for the weekend was rubbish and I need to remove an item from the dash before fitting it.

But - I did take a quick drive around on Saturday with it in place on the dash and there were certainly no problems with viewability and that was just reflecting it to normal glass, not via the film that's supplied. I can't see visibility being an issue but will report more once I've nailed it in properly.

Was this day or night?

I take it you have to connect it to a pda or laptop or something?

Burble

You don't have to connect it to a PDA. The unit on its own is a GPS receiver with the HUD stuff but you can connect it to a PDA and use it as a bluetooth GPS receiver

so does it display sat nav then?

or just speed and direction?

Is there a pic of what it displays?

Read the text. :p :)

Displays speed and direction, and provides bluetooth GPS for any other device that can use it (for mapping or whatever).

Burble

The unit itself isn't a sat nav, all it displays (I think) is your speed. I did see some pics online but can't remember where! I'm sure Feekles will be forthcoming with piccys soonish.

Glaucus

yeah found some pics. I wondered if it could display a simplified sat nav if it was connected to a laptop, but no. Like turn right in x meters..

The only display it has is speed and direction of travel but because it's a fully fledged GPS receiver with bluetooth output there's nothing stopping you loading some navigation software on a laptop (such as Garmin PC) and using the output of this device to pass your location onto said software.

I think there's some confusion here between GPS receiver and satellite navigation.

And the test I did was in the evening, but still daylight and without the reflective film supplied.

Hmmm... 625mph?

Ok kokey, Dropped in to expansys this morning and picked up one of these, £37 using a voucher. :)

Seemed quite good on my way home, i will be needing the reflective patch as my windscreen seems to have a ghost reflection as though its doubleglazed  , one question though.

The Speed Warning Function? Is this simply you set it too 70 and when you exceed 70 it beeps? or what?

Seems so, as there is no internal map to state what the speed limit is on a particular stretch. If it had had this function I would have snapped it up in a second :)

This is all installed now, I had a crack on my windscreen so I wasn't going to fit it until I had that fixed and I didn't get that fixed until Thursday. It's very good, fitting the film was easy as I used some soapy water and then squeegied it out once it was in place. Very easy to read and not distracting at all.

And here it is, I've taken the picture with the camera where my head normally is so that you can see how it looks. I was concerned that the actual bit which the speed is reflected from would be too bright but I don't even notice it. It's light sensitive as well so it self-dims at night.

Whered you live Mr ElRazur? if your anywhere around the northwest, ive got one of these i no-longer need... Im too lazy to box it up and post it, but, if you want to meet up somewhere you can have it for nowt... If ElRazur isnt able to meet, this offer is open to anyone up Norf. :)

BTW... im not getting rid because its poo, in fact far from it, just the headunit in my new car has a much more useful display, showing not only GPS speed but also Accel/braking and lateral G forces, which is soo much more fun. :)

HG-100 also includes an alert to remind drivers when they have exceeded the local speed limit.I wonder where it gets that information from and how it handles the varying speed limits on such roads as the M25 and at roadworks?

Mark
14-10-2008, 00:14
In short, I suspect it doesn't. No maps, so it must be a fixed setting.

Okey Kokey, Any other northern monkeys want it for free? before i lose it down the back of the sofa.

As for the speed warning, it doesn't work very well at all really... you pre-set a speed, 70mph for example, and then when you exceed that speed the speedo flashes to show you've exceeded it... Kinda pointless really, you're hardly likely to forget the speed limit for the road you're on. Other than that its a great little gadget.

If nobody wants it, don't throw it away, put it in a box and I'll steal it from you when I next see you and put it in Mrs. Feek's car, it might slow her down!
