This one's an interesting one.

My son's laptop (Toshiba L45 series running Vista Home Premium) seems to have a little amnesia every time he restarts it.

His account is the only one on the computer. Never been any others. Before you yell at me for leaving a 14 year old autistic child in charge of an admin account, he's smarter at these things than I am and would just figure the password out and log into the admin account anyways. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/images/smilies/lol.gif

He will get on the computer, set everything up the way he wants it (desktop image, login icon, sidebar gadgets, favorites, etc). If he then restarts the computer, all that information is gone and something comes up in the tray saying he was logged into a temp account??? How the heck can he have been logged into a temp account when the admin is the only account on the computer??

Any ideas? I'm getting tired of having to come in and put in all my addresses, nicknames and passwords, etc every time I get on his computer, and him leaving it running non-stop for the next 3 years doesn't sound too healthy either (besides the problem of Windows Updates restarting it after critical updates).

Usually that's a result of profile corruption - which usually means part of the registry.

Is the laptop being shut down properly?

Check in the Computer Management that the profile path is blank.

Failing that, create a new account and see if that makes any difference.

I assume there's plenty of disk space free? Profile's often fail to load when the the system partition is full.

Turns out the original profile was corrupt. Creating a new one and renaming it worked.
