View Full Version : Certain meals for certain times?

Does anyone think of certain meals only as things for certain times of the day?

I will do bacon eggs and beans or scrambled egg on toast as a dinner but I've been told they are "breakfast" meals not "dinner" meals and I just can't understand this.
I have had curry for breakfast, I've had cornflakes for dinner, I've munched a chicken breast before work, I've never really worried about things being classed as a certain meal.

Am I the only one?

Maybe it is because I don't "do" breakfast as such, I don't really "do" set meal times - I eat when I am hungry and will aim to have one main meal a day. I know "diet" wise this probably isn't brilliant but it is what seems to work for me.

I don't want this thread to go off on healthy eating, I'm just wondering about peoples thoughts on certain foods/meals only being for certain times of the day.

Nah I'll eat anything at anytime, though curry probably not the best thing in the morning! I mean breakfast is about the only thing I think you can be a bit more anal about with regards to what "normal" breakfast food is. however I've had lasagne/pasta in the morning for brekkie, through to fry ups, to fruit smoothies, quiche, kippers etc...

I think there are some things that feel more lunch or dinner or breakfast type of things. Tea time for me is always toast/bakery/savoury snack and a cup of tea/coffee however.

Yup and technically even if I don't eat until 6pm it is still breakfast :p

I tend to follow convention for the most part (cereal/toast/full English etc. for brekky, cold lunch/sandwich, hot dinner), but occasionally mix it up. Full English can be enjoyed at any time of day, and I often take a tupperware of cereal in to eat at work around lunchtime. Any leftovers from dinner are fair game for breakfast the next day also.

I'm changing the habit of a lifetime and having breakfast regularly. I find it makes me feel a bit more with it in the morning and quite a lot less grumpy.

Suitable comments about the grumpyness are expected.

Must resist... comments.... ;D ;D

You are a grumpy **** most of the time anyway ;) I'm glad you're having breakfast, then again I had been bugging you about it! :o

Leftovers for breakfast are brilliant.

why go along with culture, who said they have it right.

It's like I'll have mint sauce with rosties, regardless of what meat It's with. Some call me a freak. I call them narrow minded for just following the norm.

Nope. I'll eat owt whenever I fancy it.
I don't usualy eat anything till gone 1pm anyways even though I am up before 7am.
A brekky for me is 8 slices of smokey, 3 fried eggs a tin of heainz an about 5 slices of heavy marged bread, Looooooovely. I do one about twice a week.
If you put on weight then I am Not the man to be around ;D

I rarely eat breakfast too. I have tried, hard, but I just can't do it. Part lifestyle, part don't like eating before about 9am. Most stuff fits anytime but I don't like cereal for dinner.

Cold pizza for the breakfast of champions!

Cold pizza for brekkie is Pebs's fave I know for a FACT! ;)

I have to agree... my example is.. I only eat Heinz Chicken soup when I am ill, its like an automatic thing.

This week I have been feeling under the weather and had to make a purchase of said soup.

I would never buy it if I was ok because it reminds me of being ill :/

I think any foods are for anytime.

I sometimes have cereal for dinner, if I don't end up having dinner.

Or other times I will have lunch things at 10am, or sometimes like 2am.

I dont think it matters really.

I'm quite happy to mix and match :)
Cereal and toast seems nice at any time of day :D And breakfast can entirely depend on how healthy I feel like being and what I'm doing that day. Strangely, despite having barely any routine for the last few months, I've been eating breakfast more regularly than ever!

I LOVE THE BRANFLAKES IN THE MORNING!

In fact... I love it whenever! Nom nom nom!

I had branflakes for dinner the other day too! NOm nom nom! I think I may have it tonight - as we have no food! Ha ha! Nom nom nom!

I love food. I will eat whatever, whenever buuut tend to stick to cereals at brekky as my belly just doesn't want anything else. I DO LUURVE a really ENORMOUS breakfast though with eggs and bacon and black pudding and tomatoes and baked beans and more bacon and hash browns and toast and more black pudding and a HUGE sausage (times 2) and orange juice.

Nom.

Nom nom nom nom nom.

But I only ever have them when I go on a big all nighter and get a bit tipsy. That's my only cure to hang overs.

So yeh. I have a routine and try and do the whole Brekky = cereal, Lunch = sarnie/fruit/whatevers kicking around, Dinner = Anything edible in the slightest.

This is my problem :( I love food too much :( I wish I didn't - wish I was fussy :D

OH OH!

Speaking of curries in the morning!

One's that have been in the fridge over night and have solidified slightly... so you can spreeeaaad it on a big, chunky hunky monkey piece of bread and then plonk a few almighty chicken bits on top and cover with anoooother huuuge wedge like slice of bread and then NOOOOOOOOOOM.

That's ace and also comes in my morning ailments for hangovers :D

I love a huge sausage in the mornings.

Hahaha ;D

I do try to have breakfast in the mornings as I know it is a crucial meal of the day, sometimes it can be abit difficult, especially when I am running late for work! It does help me feel fuller for longer in the day which is always nice :)

I can't survive on not having breakfast. IT's what wakes me up in the morning - my stomach trying to digest me. Whether it be at 4am or 11am (who even gets up that late?! :p) I *must* have breakfast, or I will be likely to murder someone ;D

Will

I went to the fridge for petit filous earlier, and ended up eating cold curry.

I had already had 2 platefuls (when it wasn't cold) for dinner.

And still had the petit filous too.

I blame this thread :(
