View Full Version : kubuntu
I now have Kubunut installed on a spare pc, it's all installed and running and I have no idea what I'm doing :D
Did manage to install firefox using the terminal :D which is kinda cool considering this is all new.
Now to get the windows machine to see this one and set the sharing up.
*sparks off debate*
Gnome > KDE
*wanders away*
Seriously though, congratulations on your introduction to a real, relatively decent operating system. The only reason I run windows on my PC at home is because of games, but other than that I do most of my stuff under Linux :)
Gnome > KDE
I agree for most users. I think KDE (3.x anyway, not really had a go with 4) is much more customisable for the power user, but Gnome out the box is very usable for many things.

Been messing with Knoppix 5.3.1 myself this week, Uber Geek me you know :p
Mounted on disc & runs Directly from the DVD  Awesomeness did not come in a disc shape until now ;D
I use it as my Standard I'll sort your system disc out. I cannot write in text just how Cool it is but even I can manipulate & create GFX's, Use Open Office & take advantage of the security aspects.
For me though having a Standard operating system that i can carry in my pocket to run on other peoples systems without wading through the crap they have filled it with is Heaven.
Used to do this with a Stick but the DVD is much better as the amount of data I can carry is Huge in comparison.
Agree with Daz.
However, I think Ubuntu > Kubuntu might be less controversial.
Despite all the protestations about them being from the same source and the fact I use KDE on my Gentoo desktop, I tried a Kubuntu (KDE 4) LiveCD on my 'new' (second hand) laptop and frankly it lasted about five minutes. The KDE 4 interface appears to be a disaster area and there appears to be no documentation at all for Kubuntu 8.04 and very little even for 7.10. So I installed Ubuntu and it just worked. Indeed, posting from it now. :)
