Firefox Bookmarks

does anyone know if there is any kind of add on for Firefox that saves your bookmarks like IE does. If I need to reformat my HDD I don't want to loose my bookmarks. Any Suggestions ?

They are stored in a HTML file on the machine but you can follow this (http://mozilla.gunnars.net/firefox_bookmarks_tutorial.html#importing_and_expo rting_bookmarks) guide it'll be easier.

Have a look at Foxmarks (http://www.foxmarks.com/) which will backup your bookmarks automagically.

I use it to keep my bookmarks syncronised over 3 machines and it's great.

saves all your firefox and thunderbird details, like passwords and the such. Really handy when formatting.

Foxmarks doesn't do tabs/cookies/history like GBS does (well, did), but Weave (http://labs.mozilla.com/2008/06/weave-status-update/) (from Mozilla) will, and hopefully more, along with support for running your own server (will work with any standard WebDAV box) :)

Doesn't look terribly stable at the moment, but the 0.2 update should be imminent and that might be usable. Looking forward to testing it!

What is WebDAV? Heard of it but know nothing of it. Is it something that can run on standard webspace?

Distributed Authoring and Versioning, emphasis on the Authoring at the moment I think. It's an idea of creating, locking, writing, moving files etc but all over HTTP. So long as your web server supports it (module to apache, think it's built into IIS by default though not sure), then yep, just point a client at the URL, optionally setup a username and password, and mount it somewhere for read/write like a folder :)

If they can nail the versioning it'll be cool - version control for a whole website at the file system level effectively. Commit and/or rollback entire versions of sites via the web service itself. Funkeh!
