Does anyone have any they aren't using I could borrow to test out? I'm thinking of getting some 200Mbps but really want to try some before I buy.
Out 54G network is ok but I really want the videos playing without any buffering as running a cat5 cable to the 360 from the router isn't possible.

Bear in mind that you won't get anything like 200mbps unless you have very new wiring with only one device in each plug socket. 20-30mbps is far more realistic though likely to provde higher throughput than your wireless.

I know we won't get the 200Mbs quoted but from the reviews I have read it will certainly be better than our wireless currently gives us. I've found a pair of pass-through adapters for £94 which are what we'd need, but would really like to test them with our house as the wiring is old before I was to drop £94.

Also if you need to cross floors make sure the adaptors support multi frequencies so they can cross circuits as upstairs/downstairs tend to be on different circuits.

I wouldn't even know how to check the frequencies. One would be upstairs with the mac plugged in and the other downstairs with the 360 attached.

Check your fuse box. If upstairs and downstairs are on different switches then they are likely to be running on different rings. Until recently you couldn't pass data between rings but someone I work with was most insistent that the new ones support multi frequency switching.
Hopefully someone with better understanding of in home electrics will post in a minute.

see this is why I'd like to somehow test a set before I bought them to make sure they work properly.

Start flicking switches and see if power to plugs goes out a floor at a time or to the whole house at the same time.
NOTE: This may piss off your OH/house mates if you don't warn them ;D

they won't all go off. They are on different circuits. we've tripped the downstairs fuse but upstairs stays the same.
If I can figure out a means for the roundtrip, I have a pair of Netgear HDX101s you can borrow. Only problem is they're a bit delicate so need TLC (I've killed two already).

Thanks alot for the offer Mark but if they are very delicate I'll pass as I'm rather clumsy and wouldn't want to kill them.
I might not need them in the end Mark as I've found a 802.11n router and usb adapter bundle which works in OSX for £58, which is cheaper than the pair of homeplugs.
Forgot I had a pair of 200mbps, stumbled across them today in the Garage. They do get quite hot, and the latency is pretty bad, but you're welcome to borrow them and see how you get on, if you're still interested :)

I might be ok, I'll be able to tell you in around 15 minutes ;D
