The latest Pamplona fiesta. Can you imagine our HSE allowing this ?

Imagine this in British towns and cities. You could cut youth crime and disorder at a stroke. If there are loads of young 'uns causing grief, disorder and upset, have a police van with bulls in it and let them loose.
Es moy acceptable para mi.
Sounds like a good plan to me :)
Tis Faysh
When I was at uni,one of my housmates mates was Sapnish and his dad used to get chased every year, the last time he ran he was well into his 80's!
I hate this 'festival' with a vengeance.

Yup. Serves them right. Any animal which injures a human who has forced it to do something like that against its will gets a big thumbs up from me.
Even though many aspects of this is not exactly "fair" on the bulls, the bulls tend to live a very comfortable life and are well treated. It's part of a culture that to us is very alien, just like in other parts of the world, you have your hand chopped off for being a theif, or your outer labia cut off once you turn 13 (some african country) with no anaesthetic. Gross? Yes. Weird? Yes. Inhumane? Only by our standards, by theirs it's been their way for centuries, who are we with our overgrown sense of might and superiority to tell them that what they're doing is wrong?

Because we are English :dunno:
;D
Ah... good point... well made! ;D
Im not going to be telling them what they're doing is wrong. Doesnt stop me hating it.
Pity people couldnt have your attitude re foxhunting Will ;)
It's a rather different situation though, isn't it? At least the bulls have a chance to get some revenge, and it's the bulls chasing the humans, not the humans goading a pack of dogs to do their dirty work for them.
Sorry if that offends, but that's just the way I see it (admittedly with media-tinted glasses).
Hehe interesting way of looking at it I guess.
Pebs just to reassure you, I don't particularly find it fascinating or brilliant or cool... I'm just not offended by it. However I concede entirely why you and others would be. :) I just find this such a small tip of an ever grotesque iceberg that frankly it doesn't affect me and I can sort of accept the cultural differences or traditions that we find so odd.
However, to contrast and to add hypocracy to my schpeil, I abhor whale hunting that the Japs are doing just for the sake of doing it - in spite of some of them being endagered and near to exctinction - I find that enraging to levels of anger I cannot describe. So I'm not entirely callous enough to think that it's harmless fun... and if I use the same arguement of cultural diversity and acceptance maybe the whaling falls under the same net (no pun intended)?
It's a toughie because obviously the bull is not endagered and they are given a good life - and believe it or not if the bull manages to escape it is let go to roam free anyway that's an aside. It's not a brilliant sport, then again blood sports aren't brilliant IMO. However nature always gets it's own back at some point - as has happened here.
The bulls then go on to face a matador according to the article. Short of carrying a covert sub machine gun I can't see the bulls escaping ;)
Do they eat it afterwards? The last one I went to they hung and let it cure as per normal. I think it was given initially the Torreador and his family... but I think it varies from city to city? It is an unfair thing to do, but then again battery hen farming in my eyes is worse... or am I just strange?! :o
battery hen farming in my eyes is worse...
OMG BATTERY HEN FARMING IN YOUR EYES!
OMG BATTERY HEN FARMING IN YOUR EYES!

dude, I don't know. I would call that pretty inhumane. The call the one Female Genital Mutilation and it's severely uncool. It's considered a crime against women.
