For some reason I never sleep on long haul flights. UK to US is fine but US to UK arriving at 7am made for a very interesting drive home the one time I tried it. Now I just get a taxi, it's $150 but as I pointed out to my boss I am worth a hell of a lot more than $150 alive but a lot less dead!

Ditto on the sleeping thing.

I'm absolutely dead on my feet at the moment. I was out of bed at about 7am UK time, flew to Los Angeles (ick) yesterday afternoon and then lay awake pretty much all night, I think I got at most an hours sleep.

It isn't a good time for Mrs. Insomnia to come and share the bed with me. At least this hotel has decent coffee.

Ouch, not nice :( I'll be joining that awful feeling next weekend when I fly out to China. Woohoo :D

I'm normally OK going UK - US but I was totally screwed when I went to Japan last. Mind you, I had gone Germany -> Arizona -> Tokyo in the space of 5 days so I shouldn't be surprised.

Ugh that sucks, I love that I always sleep on long-haul flights, tried and tested method:

UK -> US

Go out on the lash the night before, get home at 2-3am
2 x Beers on the flight
Sleep (7-8 hours)
Arrive - go out on the lash until 2-3am
Sleep (7-8 hours)

Awake feeling a tad tired, but no jet lag!!

US -> UK

Go out on the lash the night before, get home at 2-3am
2 x Beers on the flight
Sleep (7-8 hours)
Arrive, last it out until midnight or so
Sleep (7- hours)

Awake, ready to go to work, no jet lag!

D'you reckon I could sell it, lol? Unfortunately insomniacs aren't gonna do too good on my program :D

I've only managed one decent sleep on a long haul flight and that was coming back from Seattle a few years ago when I took a fistfull of non drowsy hayfever tablets as they always make me feel sleepy.

Anyway, off to meetings I go.

I'm not looking forward to the return flight from here. Getting out to here was reasonable, I actually managed to get about 5-6 hours sleep between the two flights. Gatwick -> Atlanta = 8.5 hours, got a couple of hours sleep even though the flight was a 9am one. Atlanta -> Honolulu = 9 hours, got 4 hours sleep, which went a good way to tiding me over. -11 hours time difference isn't my idea of fun, but as its the start of the break it didn't matter so much if it took ages to get over jetlag.
Heading back to the UK is the one that'll suck. 9 hours to atlanta, 10 hours layover (daytime layover too), then 8.5 hours to the UK, landing at 7 in the morning on saturday. I need to get sleep on that final leg for sure, so I'm in any state to be bouncing in work on monday morning (got a lot of critical stuff to dive into when I get back), and I'm desperately hoping to get out to a friends party whom I haven't seen since I played at her wedding back in August last year.

I'm jetlagged, but fortunately slept like a log last night.

I can't sleep on planes either, so was a 30ish hour day yesterday (up at about 6am US eastern time as it was a school day so my brother and family were up then), then to bed at 9pm UK time last night. Set an alarm for 8:30 so I didn't oversleep. Oh I needed that alarm to have broken :(

I've only ever managed to sleep once on a plane, and that was thanks to some painkillers/sleeping tablets on my last trip back from Florida. I'm fine going to the US, I just push myself till 10-11pm US time (about 3-4am UK time, pretty common for me anyway) and just get a good nights sleep. Coming back is harder though, I always end up having a mid afternoon nap for a few hours to see me through into the night on the day back. Never really feel it the next day back though.

My sleep pattern is so buggered up lately.

To try and help myself sleep on the plane tonight I went out last night with some colleagues and didn't go to bed until about 4am. It's now about 8:30am so I'm hoping that if I'll be tired enough to sleep on the flight.

We shall see.

I very rarely sleep either, and when I do it's at most an hour or two. That's an absolute killer on an almost non-stop flight to Sydney. :'(

It didn't work. Not that I'm surprised.
