Not really into cars, but I suppose this is the start of it.

Did my theory test today 50/50 for the multiple choice section 53/75 for the hazard perception. Glad that is all over with, I can get on with lessons and other stuff now.

Congrats!

I was one of the first people to take the theory test. It was done on booklets, and they posted your results out. You also didn't get told how many you'd got wrong. Amazing how it's changed now.

I was really impressed with the whole process, they were really nice in the test centre and the whole think went as expected really.

Is the theory test something to do with the man with the red flag?

(No you don't, but you have to do the Theory test before the practical test)

You can take the theory test at any stage. Rich'll be able to give us accurate dates, but I believe you have to pass your driving practical within 2 years of getting your theory, or you have to re-sit the theory.

Spot on, you can do you theory test at any point and the practical must be passed within 2 years of passing the theory test. It seems that most instructors suggest that people try to do the theory test before learning to drive, as much of it is common sense and most people should be able to pass with a few hours of revision and practice. Suppose it makes sense to get it over and done with.

I used an older version of this (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Driving-Test-Success-Tests-2007/dp/B000SNUQMQ), the exact version of this (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Official-Driving-Manual-Skills/dp/0115521917) and last years version of this (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Official-Theory-Test-Drivers-Highway/dp/0115528865).
